Happy Thursday!
After my little trimming session yesterday, I decided against re-doing my hair. Instead, I put it in a high ponytail, scarfed the front, and retired for the night. This morning I was inspired by my fav cousin PJ to do a low, side swept bun...messy of course. Here's what I did:
- Gathered the hair at the nape of my neck, behind my left ear
- Used a Goody Ouchless Band to make a pony tail- I pulled my hair all the way through twice, and stopped short on the third time.
- Added a headband and a flower for good measure

Very cute Nikki. I love wearing flowers in my natural hair.
I heart this blog! I've never really followed hair blogs because they can get inudated with too much info, but you keep this clean, clear, and simple. I am trying henna right now and a bit nervous, but mostly excited. Thanks for the inspiration!
Really beautiful!
Where are you all finding and purchasing these flowers? They are so cute.
Teach us, Guru. lol Thanks Nikki! It's gorgeous!

This is gorgeous!
I have added this style and the twist n curl to my list of styles to try once my hair is longer.
I wore this same exact style today to work! Crazy.
Beautiful, great summer hair style for day or evening!
Love the "messy" side bun! I can't wait until my hair's long enough.
Really cute! I've been loving flower's as hair accessories a lot these days. Add's a pretty touch to curly hair!
Very cute bunnytail! I wore my hair like that all the time in Georgia. Simple and chic.
So cute!
Beautiful!!! Love that side bun and the accessories.
I'm SO lovin' that style!
this look SO good
Nikki, get out of my head! I wore a side bun on 5/21 too! Not a messy bun, I haven't mastered that yet. I slicked mine back and parted my hair to the side. Love your flower!
omg this is such a beautiful ptotective style! I'm lovin it so much!
Thanks to my two beautiful daughters (25 and 22 years of age) I (44 years of age), am about to embark on this beautiful change of hair and try to preserve what I have left. I'm not bald, but it is thinning. I think this is what I truly need. No chemicals, just natural beauty.
This 'Messy Side Bun' Ms. Nikki, is sure to be the next big hair style (for women of color) compared to the Farrah Fawcett-Majors hair cut in the 80's. This is absolutely the stuff that dreams are made of. Thank you Nikki. Valerie

This is absolutely gorgeous. I'm going thru my transition again and look forward to being able to style my hair like this. For the most part I currently wear my hair in a bun. When I try to wash-n-go my hair looks crazy. It's curly, wavy, and straight (due to the relazed hair) all at one time. So weird.
Thank you for sharing your tips with us. :-)

I am so amazed at the beauty and condition of your hair. I too have natural hair and love it but I have a hard time letting it grow(love wearing short bobs). My boyfriend hates that I will only let it get just beyond shoulder length before taking scissors to my head. This definitely motivates me to grow it out.
Thanks for the awesome tips ;)
I just joined Curlynikki not more than 2 weeks ago...if only I could have discovered it (and the other hair forums/sites) long ago!!
My last relaxer was Oct. 2009 and I made the decision to go natural in January. I had pretty close to apl hair and cut away most of my relaxed ends on Jan. 15th. It appears that you and I have similar curl and texture and I can't wait to get enough length to try this style. I've done many a messy bun, but never thought to place it to the side and accessorize!! That flower really accentuates that gorgeous head of curls!
Wow....just thought you would like to know that at least when I commented above it was March 24, 2010, but once submitted the date appeared as August 12th, 2009?! Is that happening with all of the comments? Thought it was just a little odd.
I love this style! I've been searching for my flower to finish it off. Thanks for this post. This style is one of my favorites!
I love this! Absolutely gorgeous!
