Meet Sesha Moon... two times BC'er and loving her hair and new self.

CN: Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I've BC'd twice and each time I've been a short term transitioner. I BC'd in 2003 and most recently, on July 28, 2009. I had been contemplating going natural again and so I started to browse the internet. I found CurklyNikki, Fotki accounts, and Youtubes videos. I was so inspired that at 4:30 in the morning I cut off all of my hair! When I was natural the first go 'round, these resources weren't readily available, so when I came across this online community entirely dedicated to natural hair, I was pumped!

CN:When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I have a very drastic and impatient type of personality, so a long term transition really wasn't an option. I normally kept my relaxed hair in a very short style anyway, so the shock of not having hair wasn't a concern. As far as my initial reaction to my aesthetic presentation...I was good...I threw some Fantasia IC Gel in my head, put on some big hoop earrings, and kept it moving. But my reaction to the intrinsic value in this BC is hard to even put into words 3 months later....let’s just say I feel really good about who I am.

CN:How did family and friends react to the new you? What was your response to them?
Family and friends were cool because they are used to this sort of behavior, but my girlfriend was a little apprehensive :) I am always coming home with a new hair style or color, new tattoo, or new piercing!

CN:Why did you choose to go natural?
I went natural for multiple reasons. First, my girlfriend is biracial and it’s my first time dating someone with her hair texture. She didn’t understand why I let my hair control my life. She loves to work out and she knew not to ask me to join if I had just gotten my hair styled which was most times. Or, I would run from rain as though I was allergic to water. Or we would have to schedule certain activities (e.g. the water park) around my hair appointments. I tried to sit her down and explain why I was letting my hair rule my life and my health until I got to the point to where I didn’t understand my own explanation my darn self.
Second, I could feel the perm, color, and heat killing my hair…it had gotten so bad that when I would get my hair flat ironed I could hear my strands popping! Third, I’ve always looked at females with longer and fuller hair in envy…but online forums such as yours, Youtube, and Fotki have shown me that I don’t have to envy it. I can grown my own head of naturally beautifully locks! You have no clue how it felt to see brown curls with these beautiful locks that weren't mixed or killing their hair with chemicals to have beautiful hair styles. This second BC has been intense and eye opening to say the least.

CN: What is your current regimen?
I still find myself experimenting with all of the commonly recommended products and I do all of the typical routines. The only product not commonly mentioned that is a godsend for me is Elasta QP Feels Like Silk.

CN: What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?
Be patient. Try to control your inner PJ (even though I must confess I am a sucker when it comes to trying out different gels). Don’t give up on your journey.

CN: Anything else you want to add?
Nikki…plain and simple…you are changing lives! You are giving brown girls a renewed sense of self and we appreciate you for it!

Beautiful story! Your hair is gorgeous and it fits you very well. I agree the online communitites are very inspiring. I've been natural years before discovering them HOWEVER just started wearing my hair in it's 'natural' state only after seeing the fotki's etc.
