I remember just two years ago, I was sitting in a salon chair about to make one of the biggest decisions of my life. I had decided the morning of May 15, 2011 to cut off all of my relaxed mid-back length hair to a short boy fade. Yes, I was one of those few bold ladies who didn’t see the point in transitioning… Just cut it & get it over with.
This was a major decision for me and needless to say, I was terrified to do so. However, the one thought that played over and over inside of my head was 'It's just hair, it will grow back!'. Funny thing is, when I shared this with the stylist who was about to do away with my tresses, she quickly replied, "Well, actually hair that isn’t relaxed sometimes does not grow out as relaxed hair does because it requires a little more maintenance and care."
Now, I have heard stories of ladies who find this to be very much true. I must admit that maintaining natural hair is just as much work, if not more, than keeping up relaxed hair. However, my journey proved this statement to be a lye. I am here to tell you that with proper care and patience it does grow (and in my case rather quickly) and you can certainly retain the length!
Check out my how much my hair has grown in just two years.
