Homemade Leave-in Conditioner for Soft, Shiny Hair

by Amanda

I cannot think of one curly who is anti-all natural products or anti-slip. Nope, no one comes to mind! India from My Natural Sistas creates another leave-in conditioner that gives us all the feels! After noticing that some of her favorite detanglers (i.e. Kinky-Curly Knot Today and Soultanicals Knot Sauce) contain common denominators (marshmallow root and slippery elm), she decided to create her own concoction that gave her slip, shine, and a slight hold. Check it out!

Ingredients and Tools

-3 cups distilled water
-3 Tbsp marshmallow root
-2 Tbsp slippery elm bark powder
-rice strainer
-1/4 cup aloe vera juice
-apricot oil
-avocado oil
-castor oil
-1/4 tsp vitamin E oil

  1. ADD marshmallow root to simmering distilled water
  2. DISTRIBUTE slippery elm bark powder evenly throughout the pot
  3. BRING the pot to a boil and stir with a spoon
  4. REDUCE the heat to a simmer for 15 min
  5. POUR the mixture over a rice strainer into a bowl
  6. SCRAPE the bottom of the rice strainer to release the mixture that is coagulating through the strainer
  7. FILL half of the bottle with the mixture and then add aloe vera juice and oils (measure oils to your liking)
  8. SHAKE and use!
