Before his current gig, the Nigerian-American spent over a decade traveling the globe styling fashion shoots for Fader magazine. He's worked with such stars as Brad Pitt, Jared Leto and Mahershala Ali, and he was the costume designer for the films 'Queen of Katwe' and 'Mother of George.' He's also rumored to have dated actress Lupita Nyong'o, but we ain't one to gossip. For this particular shoot, Mobolaji traveled to the streets of Senegal with some suitcases full of clothes and a photographer and made this magic!

Umoja is an all-female village in Kenya, founded by a woman named Rebecca Lolosoli, some 25 years ago. It consists of nearly 50 women who no longer want to suffer abuse. The place is doing so well that it's inspired neighboring villages to start their own women-only communities. Once you see how they live, you may want to do the same or at least purchase a one-way ticket to Kenya!

The versatility of our hair and all of the hairstyles we can pull off is just one of the many reasons it's great to be melanin. I recently wanted a cornrow style and searched images to show my stylist and ran across an image of eembuvi braids that left me breathless. The black and white image was of three women with their backs turned and braids down to their ankles. Eembuvi braids are worn by women of the Mbalantu tribes from the Namibia. It’s a style that requires preparation from a young age when Mbalantu girls use thick layers of finely ground tree bark and oils– a mixture that is said to be the secret to growing their hair to such lengths.
