How to Wash Protective Braid Styles This Summer

Discovering Natural
Hi Naturals,

With the weather being so hot and people taking vacations and needing their hair to not turn from a defined twistout to an Afro in the humid weather, doing styles like crochet twists and braids is an excellent alternative! However, many people feel like they cannot wash their hair while in these styles. I feel that it is crucial to do so. “Out of a healthy scalp, comes healthy hair”... right?

Here's a video I did showing how I wash my crochet braids after returning from a week-long cruise filled with swimming in chlorine and salt water. Hope it's helpful! -Discovering Natural

I responded, “Yeah girl. There were only two things. Cheating or hitting us.”

By Onicia Muller

The birth and death of friendships are as mysterious and unpredictable as waves washing up on the shore. We can't predict when and what they’ll bring into our lives. We don't know what they’ll take or teach us when they leave. My would-be best friend struggled with low self-esteem, depression, and abandonment issues. Six months after our last conversation, I reconciled that we were both running on empty and didn’t have anything left to give. I finally forgave myself and my friend for letting our relationship die, and I learned some valuable things in the process. Here are 6 tips for ending friendships gracefully.

Hairstylist & YouTuber Janay Mickles Shares Her Secrets to the Perfect Silk Press!

Silk press by Janay Mickles
By Kanisha Parks

There is something so satisfying about witnessing shiny, flawless, bouncy, and flowy silk press results! As the resident at-home hair stylist to my three sisters and mother, it is a technique I’ve tried and failed a countless amount of times. The same goes for the 15 blow dryers we have in the closet, all purchased in the name of securing silky sleek hair but only resulting in a disappointing, frizzy mess within minutes. And those are just the tools, let’s not even get started on the products . . .

How to Not Suffer in Silence

By Tiffy Kink

As a black woman, I think that black people are some of the strongest human beings to ever exist on planet earth. However, we can sometimes be too prideful in ourselves, to the point where we are willing to suffer in silence. We have a tendency to let fear and shame invade our minds and silence us. While I believe that experiences are unique to the individual, I don’t believe that one individual is the only individual to have gone through a particular experience.
