Pretty pastel dresses, patent leather Mary Janes, and those frilly, ruffled socks. For many of us, Easter Sunday meant a new dress, new shoes, and new hair.

How would you describe your style?
I don’t believe that my style can be summed up in a specific way simply because it’s all over the place. Sometimes classy, sometimes modest but sometimes risque. Sometimes girly or flirty. Sometimes chic, boho, retro, edgy, feminine, glam etc. I dress according to how I feel and not necessarily according to what’s in.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my overall style as Modern Vintage with Edge. I love to incorporate that into my corporate daily attire which makes it unique, edgy, sophisticated for the corporate world.

Sometimes I like to pretend that I can still hang out all night and not pay for it the next morning. It’s time like those that I’m painfully reminded that my days of being a night owl are loooong over. I’m not sure what possessed me to see a late showing of The Artist last Saturday and then try to top the night off with dinner and drinks at Dos Caminos. By the time I hobbled into a cab a little after midnight, I was completely ready to turn into a pumpkin (my cute way of saying that I was dead tired and looked the part!).
In any case, you don’t want to see the pics from that actual evening (trust me). So instead, here’s me all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (after waking up at the crack of noon on Sunday) wearing the exact same ensemble.

In my zeal for scouting a new photo shoot location, I totally leapt before I looked and waddled into a giant mush of mud and grass while taking these pics… hence the lack of shoe closeups (but trust me, they were cute!). Luckily, it was one of those rare times that my shoes weren’t made out of real leather (or, I shudder to even think, suede!). So a quick swipe with a damp rag, and all was right with the world.

I’m a career gal, living in NYC while attempting to climb the corporate ladder one fashionable footstep at a time. I always dreamed of a glamorous job in the fashion industry, but instead I became a technology geek and now spend most of my days talking bits and bytes with IT Directors. Even though khakis and polos are the standard uniform within my industry, I prefer dresses and high heels. The only fashion rules I follow are to have fun and keep it classy... everything else is fair game! I look forward to sharing both my on- and off-duty looks with the Curly Nikki community each week. I am literally ALL OVER the web, and you can connect with me via Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, and Pinterest.
It just goes to show that wearing a head-to-toe monochromatic look doesn’t have to be boring…
I spotted this blazer in Zara a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t get it out of my head. I finally bit the bullet and scooped it up the other day, and I’m really glad that I did. The contrasting prints inject a little bit of funk, and it matches perfectly with my new kicks (which you can pick up at Daffy’s for just $50, by the way!).

I’m a dress and heels kinda gal, but if I have to wear pants… they might as well be pink and lacy! Summer was just about winding down the last time I wore these trousers, but I also think they’re perfect for spring. And as if these pants weren’t all ready precious enough, they also sport little zips at the ankle?!
Sequins can sometimes give me pause (unless I’m on stage with my two backup singers), but I love the way they add texture and visual interest to this anything-but-basic white top. I’m a sucker for classic pieces with a little twist that makes them feel fresh and unique. Take this trench coat for example, the crisp pleats in back take it up a notch and turn it into something special.

Why does it always seem like you can never find anything to wear when there’s an important event or a special occasion? It’s as if your closet purposely conspires against you, and all of your favorite stores suddenly seem to have a dearth of acceptable inventory.
At least that’s how I used to feel. These days, I have a little rule for myself: whenever I ever spot a great party dress I just go ahead and get it… even if I don’t have anyplace to wear it anytime soon. So far, it’s worked well for me, and I no longer have to scramble around at the last minute whenever I have to go someplace “fancy”. I spotted this dress at Banana Republic (on the clearance rack for just $25!), and I immediately snatched it up. My favorite features are the jeweled belt and the tiny pleats around the neckline.
I can’t wait to take it out for a spin. Cocktails anyone?

I was feeling rather playful this weekend, and I think it shows in today’s outfit. This jacket is hands-down one of my favorites, and I decided to play up the rainbow confetti tweed with a pair of kooky tights.

Some days, I find I just want to throw on something simple. And what could be less fussy than a crisp white button-up shirt and jeans?
With an outfit like this, it’s all about the details: a tunic-length top that nips in a bit at the waist, sky-high heels that help lengthen the leg, and bronze accessories that add a touch of bling…
Sometimes less really is more.

Yes, it’s true… I succumbed to yet another Target Designer Collaboration. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit.
Since there are only a smattering of Target stores in NYC (and past experience has taught me that the most coveted items would be snatched up within minutes), I opted to wake up extra early and snag a few pieces online. As it turns out, bleary-eyed shopping is not the brightest idea for me. My brain was too foggy to properly whittle down my selections, and I wound up purchasing a whopping 4 dresses! One of them will most definitely be going back, and I’m still undecided on another.
This one is definitely keeper, but you’ll have to wait for a recap of my upcoming vacation to see what else I got!

Mom made it in late last night so this morning was pretty chill. We had breakfast delivered and pretty much lounged around talking ish. The usual. I had a coffee date with Kim Wayans scheduled for 2pm, but other than that, we were free to play tourist. Around 11, we got up, got dressed and headed to the roof for a mini photoshoot--
Out and about--
us, not shopping on Rodeo Drive

After leaving Starbucks we hopped in the car to make our way back to the condo. Listening to the incessant melody of Tupac, Ice Cube, Daz & Kurupt, we were heading down Olympic Blvd minding our business, when suddenly we heard the unmistakable roar of an American muscle car. We glanced to the left to see a black and red Dodge Viper jet across three lanes of traffic, just in time to cut us off. True to form, Hubby starts into a stream of insults and just before he could lay on the horn, we hear the beep of another horn behind us. It was obvious that this black and yellow Dodge Challenger had been trailing the Dodge Viper in front of us, and had the nerve to be mad that we cut him off! So we maneuvered alongside the Viper 'cause Mom needed to run into Riteaid. Despite his mild irritation with being cut off, Hubby was craning his neck to get a better look at the Viper (one of his favorite cars) when he says, 'hey, that's Chris Brown'.
Shut up!
I looked over my shoulder and it was him... looking like the Cheshire Cat, grinning from temple to temple with his hands squarely planted on 10 and 2.
In that moment I was completely paralyzed. I knew I had left my camera at home, Hubby's was too difficult to operate and my Iphone charge was at 3% and lost in the diaper bag. After some anxious rummaging, I found it, rolled down the window and yelled, and I quote, 'you know I gotta get a pic, pull up!'. He obliged, and I managed to snap one overexposed shot. Terrible. Our light turned green and as we made our left, he yelled, 'aiight then', laughed and threw up the deuces. Classic.

Had to call Syl to tell her the bizarre story and she was all, 'he's always on Necole Bitchie in that Viper!' Got home, googled it and sure enough-

I'm about to head out to dinner but will check back in with you curly divas soon!
Later Gators,
Nik
