Reunited at Last!

After an unexpected and wickedly inconvenient overnight layover in Philly, Hubby finally arrived safe and sound this afternoon. We took to the roof to enjoy the weather--

so, um, how hot are these leggings?!
sweater- Express (old)
leggings- gifted from Black Milk
boots-Madden Girl from Macys

they spinnin'!

My mom arrives tonight at 9 pm! This will be her first time in LA...ever, and I want to show her the city, but it can get overwhelming, real quick. If you could pick only 3 sights, what would they be? Where should I focus my efforts?

*Fierce Friday will resume next week! Send pics!*

Naturally Fashionable- White Polka Dot Blouse

via Style Pantry

Huge thanks to the amazing Chloe Aftel (photographer) and the lovely Megumi Wakabayashi (makeup artist) for making me look pretty!

Wearing: Polka dot blouse originally from here. Love this pussy bow blouse style here and this from Threadsence is way cooler and cheaper. There’s also this Equipment blouse.

My pants are meant to be uber skinny but got them a couple of sizes bigger to look like straight leg pants. Took in the waist & cropped the length. Available here, here or there.

Info on pumps in this post. Bag – YSL Oversize Muse. Enjoy…xx

Rather than wax poetic about today’s ensemble, I’ll just cut right to the chase: THESE BOOTS WERE FREE!

It was a perfect storm of leftover holiday giftcards and an end-of-season clearance sale that brought these beauties into my life without me having to spend a dime. But to be honest, even without the giftcards they still would have been a steal at just $49 in-store (marked down from over $300). And as an added bonus, they’re actually pretty comfy. Thumbs up to the manufacturer for adding extra-cushioning at the ball of the foot.

I’m a career gal, living in NYC while attempting to climb the corporate ladder one fashionable footstep at a time. I always dreamed of a glamorous job in the fashion industry, but instead I became a technology geek and now spend most of my days talking bits and bytes with IT Directors. Even though khakis and polos are the standard uniform within my industry, I prefer dresses and high heels. Just realized that I have been wearing more skinnies lately. I’m always going to be partial to my 70s style flares and bell bottoms, but I’ll rock a sweet pair of skinny pants as long as they are reminiscent of the 50s and 60s.

I always crop them to ankle length or shorter.

Wearing: White double breasted blazer – Similar here. Like this Bebe piece here or this Rag & Bone piece on super sale. Polka dot blouses available here, here or there. Similar distressed jeans here or here. The Rosetta pumps are currently on sale and available here.

Bag – Chanel. Sunglasses – Greg’s and clearly very oversize on me. Enjoy…xo

{Rugby “Make Your Own” Cardigan, Uniqlo Turtleneck (similar), Gap Skirt (similar), H&M Shoes}

I’ve worn this sweater many times before, but this time I decided to try a different spin by testing out a new color scheme. This gold/sapphire/amethyst combo has gotten me thinking I should inject more jewel tones into my wardrobe.

Something about this overcoat (as it is a proper overcoat) makes me feel like a cross between Purple Rain-era Prince and Sherlock Holmes. Which is to say it makes me feel EXTRASUPERDOPE.

“Tell Wendy and Lisa to find Dr. Watson, stat!”

Gap jeans, NY & Co shirt, overcoat from an old costume, vintage clutch and shoes, Urban Outfitters scarf

Do you ever wear clothes that make you feel like a character (in a good way)?

Naturally Fashionable- Lace Maxi Dress

via StylePantry

Still trying to maximize my summer wardrobe. I usually layer underneath with a pair of leggings since this week has been surprisingly cold.

Totally forgot I had this vest! Bought it a while ago and recently found it in my closet…with cash in the pocket!!! The vest still had tags attached, so I must have tried it on and put money in the pocket? Dumb ish, but I’m $20 richer...haha.

My lace/mesh maxi is from Free People. Another style here. Utility/Cargo vest is from Old Navy (had it for a while). There’s a khaki style on sale here or here. Bag – Marc Jacobs. Earrings – Flea Market.

I was organizing my sock drawer (for fun… on a Saturday… ‘cuz I’m weird like that), when I unearthed these fishnet stockings. This particular pair is double-layered, so there’s a solid sheer base with a fishnet overlay. I love how they give the look of a bare leg, but with a bit more coverage and a dash of retro-sexy. Now if only I could find a pair with a backseam, we’d be in business!

Since my hosiery had me feeling all ladylike, I decided to go full-on girly with a pink blazer and pink patent-leather maryjanes. And presto! ladies and gentlemen, the perfect spring outfit… in January

Naturally Fashionable- Zbornak Ztyle

via The Style Sample

I don’t remember the first time I saw an episode of Golden Girls, but I clearly remember sitting on my parents’ bed, trying not to laugh at a raunchy joke the sharp-tongued Dorothy Zbornak made at the expense of one Ms. Blanche Devereaux. I stifled the laugh because I knew I wasn’t supposed to “get” the joke, but I did. I always got Dorothy’s jokes, ’cause she was a smart-ass like me.

Since Golden Girls was an ’80s show about a group of retirement-aged women, the wardrobe was always…interesting. Lots of sequins and chiffon, of course. And while I appreciated Blanche’s predilection for form-fitting spangles, Dorothy’s oversized cowlneck tunics and slouchy Hammer pants seemed like the senior citizen version of downtown cool. Count me in:

Plastic Island dress; ASOS trousers; Allen B. top; DKNY heels, earrings from High Street

Naturally Fashionable- Cowlneck Sweater Dress

Introducing Kendra of ClosetConfections. This girl is fierce and naturally fashionable and is our third fashion guru to join the ranks!

A dress that does triple duty as a built-in scarf and hood..? Yes, please!

I’ve been on the hunt for a nice fairisle sweater for a while, and I almost passed up this little number at Rugby the other day. I was on my way out of the store, when I spotted it neatly folded on the clearance table. I didn’t even realize it was a dress at first, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem. It’s really thick and cozy, and I’ve worn it twice already in the 72-hours since I bought it (don’t judge, it’s cold outside!).

In other news, my husband had a grand ol’ time making fun of me and my abysmal vertical leap while taking these photos. He didn’t believe me when I tried to blame it on the heels, but I think I impressed him a little bit with my tuck jump… or maybe not.

It has been freaking hot in Los Angeles, but I can’t complain. I don’t want to, but you know when you are in a conference room and it’s freezing cold and the minute you step out it’s blazing hot? Yup, that was Greg & I yesterday.

We managed to take outfit shots in the heat when we met up for lunch.

My blazer is from Zara. I’ve had it since last June. ASOS has a slightly similar version available here. JCrew.com ‘Stretch Perfect Shirt’ in fiesta purple here. Green skinnies here, here or here – All different prices.

Pumps – Giuseppe Zanotti | Bag – Chanel | Earrings – Swap Meet – Enjoy…xx

I’m in love with oversize sweaters and shirts. That’s why I go for men’s. It’s perfect for cold days and frankly, I’m just obsessed with the slouchy, messy fit..haha.

My shirt is a chambray/oxford piece that I paired with leather pants and glitter. The red pumps adds a little feminine touch.

Get the look: Blazer is from Zara, but I think they are completely out. Here are cheaper and similar versions here and here. Men’s oxford shirt here. Leather pants…similar here. Love this pair by Guess, which is a lot cheaper. Dolce Vita pumps on sale here. Enjoy…xx
