I saw these 2 simple tests on the hair boards, and thought I’d share them with you gorgeous gals!
I’ve always wondered if the deep conditioning treatments, henna applications, and dietary supplements, are actually benficial…I spend ALOT of time, effort, and money on ensuring the health of these curly tresses, and it’s great to know that there is finally a way to actually check!
#1: Sink or Swim
- Pluck a strand of hair, or find a recently shed hair, and drop it into a bowl of water (a cup/mug would suffice).
- Let it sit for a minute or two
- Check back
*If it is still swimming, pat yourself on the back! You’ve got healthy hair…keep doing what you’re doing!
*If it sinks…you’ve got trouble. Your hair has become so porous that it easily saturates with water (probably due to chemical or heat damage). But don’t fret, those naturally curly tresses can be slowly nursed back to health with lots of TLC (in the form of moisture and protein treatments and maybe even a trim).
#2: The Snap Test (To Test for Proper Protein/Moisture Balance)
- Take a recently shed strand, and try to break it…
*If it stretches a little bit and then you hear a loud snap as it breaks, keep doing what you’re doing! Your hair’s moisture and protein levels are in harmony 😀
*If it stretches a lot and weakly snaps (if at all) as it breaks, you’re in need of protein.
*If it barely streches before you hear a weak snap, you NEED MOISTUIRE.
