-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I transitioned for 1 full year. I had been well advised by real life and internet friends alike to transition for as long as I could. They advised me to use the time I was transitioning to get used to my natural hair and how to take care of it.
-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I BCed in late Aug. 08. My initial reaction was joy that it was finally over. I was so excited about my friend’s and family’s reaction to the “new” me. After a few days, I was scared because I was like, “what the heck am I going to do now???!!!!”
-What was your transition routine (products included)?
I was the wash and go queen!! In the summer at the end of my transition, I had cornrows. I pre-pooed with coconut oil, co-washed and deep-conditioned my hair once a week with Aubrey Organic products.
-What was your staple hair style during the transition?
Wash and gos in a bun.
-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
I used castor oil. I love that stuff!!
-Why did you choose to go natural?
I had breakage, visible to only me and my stylist. But it was breakage, none the less. Plus, I had been the same length for so many years. It was always so funny to my family and friends when I said that I was going to grow my hair out. They knew that my hair just didn’t grow. So sad but true. I prayed about it and felt God say, “Just do it”! And if you can believe it, my hair was longer after my transition than when I first began transitioning!
