-How long have you been natural?
It’s been 21 months. My B.C. was February 24, 2007
-What is your regimen?
Daily, I try to manipulate my hair as little as I can: I’ve been wearing twist and twist outs; On Friday I DT; on Saturday I put my twists in using natural hair care organic twist and lock gel; and hairveda whipped cream; I twist out on Sunday through Friday; My leave-ins right now are hairveda whipped cream; and karens body beautiful hair milk/hair butter. I use henna/indigo once a month; Im on a modified CG routine; When I wash I use a shampoo bar; I DT with Pantene R&N Mask; for Co Washes I use Suave and Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.
-What is the one thing you’d tell a newbie to help her on her journey?
This is actually my second time “going natural”. I went natural in 2004 for about 6 months; I was pregnant with my second child, and I wanted something easy and free; I ended up perming again #1 I had no support and #2 I didnt know anything about products; the second time was February 24 2007; I told my sister I was ready, and to just cut it all off; I have not looked back since; I have 3 high school friends and one had 4a-4b; and her hair was coming out; the other was a 4a/wavy with permed hair close to her waist, and then myself; we decided that this was something we wanted to do ,and we started our journey together; out of the 3 of us 2 are still natural and loving it; if this is something you really want (and you have to want it) you must find a support system; whether it’s a hair board such as http://www.naturallycurly.com/ or friends and family. You will come against negatvity and just an overall lack understanding. It’s not an easy transition by any means, but it’s definietly a rewarding one, and you become an inspriration for so many other women (whether you know it or not) who were just as frightened as you once were.
-How do you maintain length?
TWIST OUTS; I’m in LOVE; I’m wearing twist/twist outs right now; I will continue this throughout the winter; very limited heat;no chemicals or scissors; deep conditioning every week; Night Protection; Satin Cap; very little hair manipulation
-What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?!
Being able to be no one else but yourself and falling in love with the way that makes you feel; the vibe and energy that my natural state projects.
