-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I chose to do a long term transition. I am currently in month 19…my transition started in April 2007. I started off with relaxed hair that was almost APL and my husband and I both like my hair long, so I didn’t want to cut the length, and I also wanted to show that long term transitions are possible.
-When did you BC?
I have not done a BC yet, but recently discovered that the back portion of my hair is totally natural now just from trimming.
-What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I am totally infactuated with the texture and look of the natural section at the back of my hair. But I am still not ready to do a BC on the rest of my hair.
-What was your transition routine (products included)?
I started out deep conditioning frequently for the first year. I usually used ORS Replenishing or Silicon Mix. Then around the 14th month, I switched to co-washing. I use a variety of moisturizing conditioners. Now I always add some baking soda to my conditioner. this makes my hair so soft and it makes the detangling process much better. I also love shea butter and my Denman Brush.
-What was your staple hair style during the transition?
Cornrows and Braidouts!
-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
When cornrowing I used Moisturizing creams while braiding. I’d generously spray my hair with diluted Infusium or Aloe Vera Juice. I also started adding Silk Amino Acids to my products for a protein boost.
-Why did you go natural?
I wanted to see my natural texture again and I also got tired of chemical burns from relaxers.

I stalk your fotki album regularly because you have great style. Thanks for sharing your story.
Your braids are so beautiful. I love the thickness of them.
