Kia- A Story of Transition

-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I transitioned for 8 months. I was going to transition longer, but it was difficult to care for both textures, as many people have experienced. I would get knots all of the time and it was hard to detangle at the root.

-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I Bc’ed over the summer when I went home. When I first cut it, I did not mind so much. After a few days though, I was a little worried because it was so short, but once it started to grow I was okay with it.

-What was your transition routine (products included)?
The only thing I changed was using the cowash method because my relaxed hair liked it to. However, I still used the same products that I used for relaxed hair, and I oiled by scalp with tea tree oil.

-What was your staple hair style during the transition?
I mainly wore a ponytail with a thick headband to cover the curly part at the front.

-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
I used Parnavue Tea tree oil leave-in conditioner and tea tree oil.

-Why did you choose to go natural?
I decided to go natural because I love curly hair and used a rod set to make my relaxed hair curly. I figured, since I like curly hair so much, why not just go natural. When I saw my first baby curl, I fell in love and decided that natural hair is what i wanted.
