-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I transitioned for 17 months. I was stretching my relaxer applications, long before I knew the “technical” terms, according to the forums. I went to a hairdresser and she told me that I didn’t need to relax my hair, due to my texture. So I took her advice, stopped relaxing in Dec 2006 and began searching the internet.
-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I did a semi BC, back in May 2008. I was in love with my hair. I was in Florida when I cut it and the humidity actually helped. It made my more “poofy.” I felt carefree!!
-What was your transition routine (products included)?
I didn’t have a technical transition routine. I was concerned with taking extra special care of my hair because of the two textures. I would clarify once a month with Suave Clarifying Shampoo and use any conditioner on hand for my wash and go’s.
-What was your staple hair style during the transition?
I did a lot of wash and go’s, braid outs, rollersets, bantu knots.
-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
I use olive and castor oil.
-Why did you choose to go natural?
I wanted to see my original texture. I haven’t seen it since I was in the 9th grade, almost 20 years ago. When the hairdresser said I didn’t need to relax, I began thinking that she had a point and it became my quest. Now that I’m natural I realize it was the best decision I ever made. I’m no longer a slave to my hair. My hair used to stop me from doing a lot of things because I was worried that it wouldn’t stay straight because of the humidity. Now I don’t care, because I can always co-wash and do it over. Now humidity is my friend!!

Very lovely curls.
