Rax- A Story of Transition

-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
My transition was a little different. I was already natural (i.e. no chemicals) but had severe heat damage from over pressing. I tried to grow it out and trim little by little, but soon grew tired of waiting, and simply cut off the damaged ends to get a fresh start.

-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I BCed in December 2007. My reaction was a combination of “Yay, it’s healthy!” and “OMG what did I just do?!?!”

-What was your transition routine (products included)?
It was braided mostly. I’d alternate between spraying it with Infusium (protein) and Worlds of Curls Comb out Condish (moisture). Co-wash once a week with Suave Coconut, and shampoo once a month with Cream of Nature Detangling Shampoo. Then take the braids out and start over.

-What was your staple hair style during the transition?
Kinky twists, or braid extentions

-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
I didn’t have a definite demarkation line like those transitioning from perm.. but I mostly used Worlds of Curls.. or Curls Milkshake when I could afford it.

-Why did you choose to go natural?
I technically was natural, but never did anything with my natural hair. All I ever did was attach things to it (ie braids/weaves) and I was tired of hiding. Plus I saw pictures of other natural ladies with gorgeous hair and decided that if mine was healthy, then maybe it’d look like there’s.
