Hair Tip of The Day

By January 27th, 20215 Comments

Anonymous: Nikki, does rinsing with cold water really help?

CN: Girl, yes! It’s painful, but beneficial. After detangling and conditioning your hair under warm (not hot water), turn the dial to cold and complete your final rinse before gently wringing the hair and styling. Cold water seals the cuticle to keep the moisture in, and makes your hair easier to finger comb during the styling process. Try it and see if it works for you!

Ok..I’m reporting back [@Nika]..I thought I was gonna die the first time I tried it in the shower! I almost screamed! LOL. That water felt like ice cubes. However, it worked. I did notice a difference. I’ve done it for the past 3 days and I am used to it now..I just do it quick so I don’t have to feel it toooo much.

yeah prettysunshyne, Report back. I’m curious. I still need to wait until wash day (sunday) to see if it was really the cold water of the conditioner that made my hair sooooo soft. I’ve done a few cold water rinse this week and I’m getting used to it. I won’t say I like it but it is sort of rejuvenating and it definitely tightens the scalp as well.

I’m going to give this a try too. It reminds me of jumping into a freezing cold pool in the summer time…lol. This should be interesting. :o)

hmmm. I’m back. I couldn’t wait to try again without the cold water. Well I think it came out a little less soft and silky but I’m not really sure, the difference is barely noticeable. But I really think that is because it was still so soft from the cold water wash yesterday. So I guess I really need to wait until wash day to try this again since this morning I only rinsed and then tried this. I’ll be back soon…

    Hey Nikki,

I’ve always heard of this cold water rinse but never had any desire to try it. I tried it tonight and it was horrible just like I always imagined. However, after I rinsed my hair was silky, heavy and easy to part. It even dried extremely soft and with less frizz. I’m gonna experiment and see if it was really the cold water of if it was the conditioner since I used my Neutrogena Moisture Mask to do this and haven’t used that conditioner in months. So sometime this week I am gonna rinse with warm water and use the same conditioner to see if the results differ. I will report back.
