-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I was short term. From the time I was 7 until I was 25 (this time last year) I had long relaxed hair. I’ve always wanted short hair and I have always wanted my natural hair, so I decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I stopped relaxing my hair for 3 months and then I walked into the salon last December and had my stylist cut everything off. I went from hair down my back to short curls, no longer than 2 inches.
-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I was more shocked over the fact that it was so short, more so than the natural state. But as it began to grow out I fell in love with it.
-What was your transition routine? Staple Hair Styles?
Well, since I started off with extremely short hair, my style has always been “wash and go”. In the beginning I washed my hair every morning, but I began to realize that wasn’t the best thing for my thick curls. The routine was to wash with “Mixed Chicks” shampoo, followed with “Mixed Chicks” deep conditioner, and finally “Mixed Chicks” Leave-In Conditioner.
Now that it is longer I find that the Mixed Chicks brand doesn’t work like it used to, so I am searching for an alternative. I started using natural Almond Oil after I deep condition my hair and it’s loving it.
-Why did you choose to go natural? Are you happy with your decision?
I chose to go natural because I thought it would be ridiculous to go my entire life and not know what it’s like to be completely me. I’m beyond happy with my decision, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has introduced me to a new awareness.
Love it!
