-Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I actually didn’t transition at all. I’ve never really taken care of my hair. I went through a period in high school where it was permed, dyed, fried, and braided. I got to college and continued damaging my hair because I didn’t know how to take care of it. After thinking about it, I decided to shave my head bald a couple of days after finishing college. Yikes! It was intense but a good decision.

-When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
I did the BC on Sept. 4th, 2008 so just over 3 months ago. I shaved it bald so there was no hair left to react to. It’s just starting to grow back now and I’m surprised at how curly it is, I’m hoping that it will be manageable so I can wear it out when it gets long enough.

-What was your transition routine? Staple Hair Styles?
No transition style. Now I wear my hair in a wig as a protective style. I don’t want to mess with it, I just want it to grow healthy.

-How did you moisturize your hair to prevent breakage at the new growth line?
What I do to it now is co-wash with Shikai ‘everyday conditioner.’ It’s a great conditioner and more people should use it, it’s a great moisturizer. I also put water on my hair a lot. I shampoo with Shikai ‘natural shampoo’ once a week. I have a leave in conditioner called Abba ‘Nourishing Conditioner’ and I use Organic Root Stimulator ‘Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion.’

-Why did you choose to go natural? Are you happy with your decision?
Ahhh!! Right at this moment, I am happy I went natural but may be regretting shaving my head so hastily. I’m realizing that it’s going to take a LONG time for it to grow back. The important thing is that it will grow back healthy.
