Another Resource- CurlSalons on Naturallycurly.com

By January 27th, 20212 Comments

A few years ago, after moving to Raleigh, I was in desperate need of a trim. I didn’t know anyone, and thus referrals to a great salon were few and far between. During one of my late night escapades through NaturallyCurly’s awesome site, I happened upon the CurlSalons page. It’s a database of curly salons and stylists from around the world. And of course, members of the site have contributed their recomendations as well! The list is by no means comprehensive, but it gives you a place to start. In fact, I called about 6 of the salons in my area and asked if they had stylists experienced in working with 4a/kinky/curly hair. Most said ‘sorry, we’ve never cut african american hair before, but we’re willing to try!” Needless to say, that wasn’t the response I was looking for. But I was referred to Sophia Sunflower, a natural salon that caters to heads like mine! She was in Clayton, NC at the time, but has since moved to Raleigh. She’s the founder of MyHoneyChild products, and also a great stylist. She did my cut and color back in 2006. Without calling the other salons I found on NC.com, I may have never happened upon this stylist.

Thank you. I am a recent natural and I am planning on visiting Raleigh in the near future. This will definitely be a stop for me since I am dealing with a kinky mullet right now.
