Funny Story:
Last night, I hit the club with one of my favorite NC curlies. While waiting in line during one of my many restroom breaks (you know how it is), I had a pleasant conversation with a straight-haired Black woman. We were just shooting the breeze, when her friend stumbled out of one of the stalls. The woman I was talking to looked at her friend, gestured at my hair, and said, “Look at her hair! Isn’t it pretty? Doesn’t your hair do that when you don’t straighten?” The friend looked at me, frowned, and said, “Kinda, but I’d NEVER wear it that big.” She then turned and quickly marched out of the restroom. All I could do was smile . Most people would consider that comment a diss…it was definitely meant to be one, but to this curly girl, that was the best compliment in the world! Big Hair…Don’t Care π
It’s so much fun being a curly in the club, especially down here…it’s impossible to blend in with the masses. The only drawback is the people that lack boundaries and lunge at my hair with their sticky, sweaty fingers. True story π
Later Gators,
Nik
p.s. Stay tuned for another Giveaway! I’ll be posting it this week π
Haha @ jealous chick from the bathroom…You did right by just being the woman of class you are by not even dignifying that statement with a response…I’m wearing my big hair today with pride…hahaha…haters…
She needs a swift kick! I am all about people having their own preferences, but she is lacking proper “broughtupsy”…. and your hair is the best!!!!
Makeup Theory, I read your story – some people are so ridiculous! and you handled that with style
Oh, how I hate that sort of crap. I wrote about a similar experience (but not involving hair) a few days ago on my blog. I was hanging out with one of the supermodels from the 90s and we were in Barney’s in NYC – man, women were vicious. I couldn’t believe these grown women acted like that. Here’s the link to the whole story – too much to write here. But my point is, some women will always say flippant things to other women. It’s good to let it roll.

I’ve noticed more and more females in here in NYC wearing there hair in it’s natural form and I love it!! Its always great to see the many different textures and the versatility that comes w/ it.
@Ambyr: Thanks for your concern!! Hopefully everything should be all good soon.
Nik,
Where are the pics of the HH hair?!
Don’t leave us hanging!
I can so relate Nikki. I have a man all up in my ear trying to get pics of me and my fro. Had to finally tell me to leave me alone!!! I am such a rarity here in Japan, so there is definitely NO BLENDING IN for me…LOL
ha ha, I’m proud of ya Nik! When you get haters, THAT’s when it means it’s been done right!
like indecisivenappy so rightly said…jealousy all the way! And with that rude comment of hers it just proves it. Coz if she really did think it was ugly, she would have kept it for herself, saying it out loud, proves she wanted you to hear it, meaning she deliberately wanted to hurt, meaning you touched something in her! (damn, shoulda entered your major instead Nik! lol)
keep rocking that big hair like you do…
OMG my eyes rolled so much I thought they were going to pop out LOL What a rude and pathetic thing to say. She can only WISH to have hair like that. You should’ve thrown water in her hair, I’m sure it would’ve melted LOL
Nik, that truly is a compliment. Never forget: Big hair is impossible to ignore.
I know what you mean by the people at the club reaching at your hair. The last time I went to the club I wore this huge twist out it was so pretty. I got so many compliments, but along with the compliments came constant reaching towards the hair to touch it. I didn’t mind at first, but as the night went on I started to wonder what makes people feel that its okay to reach for our hair would you do it to someone with straight hair?
thats so weird… idk but i HATE wearing my hair if its too flat… it has to be big… i have to stand out. it won’t cut it otherwise!
Geez that was rude! I’d gladly wear my hair as big as yours. I don’t know when big hair turned into a bad thing. Now its called volume or body or something…
I will take your big hair ANYDAY! Haters are motivators….Fluff that mane…toss it…and keep it moving. π
And hand in hair SUCKS!
I think the girl was jealous of your hair because your hair is beautiful.
Who knew women still acted like that…but we all know you are the bomb! Your hair is so fly and I can’t wait for my hair to grow some more so I can rock my own big twist out.
I can’t wait to buy a bottle of HHHH for my hair to try it out. I need a good shampoo to since I’m going to be on a modified poo regimen now.
You are truly to be commended. If that were me I would’ve turned around and said, “And I would NEVER wear my hair that flat!”
LMAO!!! That’s hilarious – ol touchy feely folks. Your hair IS big and FLY. I’m learning to embrace big hair too. I never did before I started roller setting.. After my first set of big curls – I feel in love. Big hair suits my head and face. LOVES IT!!!
I was soooo worried about HBS. I went into withdrawl. I was about to send you an e-mail to see if you knew where Wes was hiding. lol
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HEHH and Aussie. I JUST (within the last half hour) used Aussie 3 min miracle and HEHH with Queen Helen’s for my DC. I’m sitting here with a fly headwrap over my shower cap. I DC with no heat.
Can’t wait for the giveaway!
WHY!!!!!! Do people do that???? I hate that!!! Do not touch the curls you have clue how long it took me to get them to look this cute, and just because they look touchable doesn’t mean they are! -_- I had one girl (with bone straight hair I might add) actually take her hand and rake it through my lovely braid out this past Friday, it was on like Donkey Kong….
