I’ve been natural, from when I can remember, about 7 years. But I didn’t do a BC, I let my perm grow out, starting in middle school.
CN: What is your regimen?
So, I really don’t have a regimen. I only wash once a month with Mane&Tail and I cowash about every other day. I’m beginning to try and hold a stlye longer than a day. When my hair is curly, I use Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Lotion + Detangling Conditioner, Lustrasilk Shea Butter + Mango, or Aussie Hair Milk. When I cowash I use the Lustrasilk, Loreal Vive Curls, or Pantene ProV Curls.
When my hair is straight, I usually don’t use product. Sometimes I will add a little Olive Oil to keep the moisture. And when I straighten my hair with my wonderful Coriolis iron, I don’t straighten my ends. I leave those out and curl them in spirals. This prevents me from having to put heat on it for a few weeks.
CN: What is the one thing you’d tell a newbie to help her on her journey?
Stick to it! I know in the beginning people would try and tell me to get a perm again, but I knew the perm was not for me. When I got my first perm my hair was down to my elbows, within a month it broke off to my shoulders….so I knew I wanted healthy hair and being natural would give me that. Also, find an inspiration! It is easy to stay motivated when you
know someone in your shoes.
CN: How do you maintain length?
I keep heat off my hair for the most part (once a month maybe), Deep Conditions…..My hair just grew bunches in the past 6 months, but I don’t know what I did! lol
CN: How do you protect your style at night?
If my hair is straight, I wrap my hair and put a satin scarf over it. If my hair is curly, I put 4 twists in and put a satin scarf over it….Sometimes I’m lazy and sleep with my hair out, but that’s very RARE b/c I don’t like the end product when I wake up!
CN: What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?!
I love being able to say that my hair is MINE! Its not processed or off of a horse (not to diss those who do that). I love my curls and I’m learning new ways to style them. Many people wish they had versatility with their hair…and that I have. My hair is thick and healthy and I love it!!
