A Length Check

By January 27th, 202115 Comments

Hola Chicas!

I don’t do many ‘stretched’ or ‘straightened’ length checks, because I solely rock curly hair. But due to an influx in requests, I thought I’d oblige 🙂

I wore the same shirt for the sake of comparison. Hope this helps!
A Length CheckMay 2008

A Length Check

A Length CheckJune 2009 (after my self-inflicted hair cut)

I still maintained a bit of length despite the cut. As I’ve said in the past, I’m not as much length obsessed as I am volume obsessed! But with longer length comes bigger hair. My goal is to have hair that is 2 inches wider as opposed to 2 inches longer. How am I to achieve this you ask? LOL, I’ll let you know when I figure it out.

I need to do a routine update soon…things haven’t changed drastically but I have cut a few things and added a few things…like Kanye says, “I’m hiring……and firing”.

I’m off to experiment with my latest PJ buy…Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine. The stupid ad they’re running on WE got me…promising protection against humidity and all 🙂

I plan to shampoo, condition, detangle, and use the S&S as a leave in (it has my beloved BMsulfate and Amodimethicone), twist, roll the ends, and bun it for the week. I’ll report back soon!

Later Gators,
Nik

BEAUTIFUL hair Nikki! It has grown so much. I have started wearing my hair curly 90% of the time and styling with conditioner only…hopefully I will see similar results!

Thanks ladies! It seems that the less I do the more my hair grows! I need to update my regimen.

Anon 8:47, check out this link for my henna- http://www.mehandi.com/shop/personalstash/

Anon 9:01, you're so right! You can definitely retain length with out-styles…just be sure to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! On average, I bun 30% of the time.

So basically you would have been waist length if you didn't cut those few inches. That's cool.

  • Anonymous says:

wow! thats amazing retention considering you cut your hair and you don't do any protective styling (apart from your lovely buns of course). Just goes to show that we don't have to "hide our hair" to retain length!

    Hi Nikki,

I have a question about hennas also. The henna that you buy does it have a color name on the box? When I order online would it be the Jamila Summer 2008 crop?

    Hi Nikki,

I am new to your site. I enjoy your writing style. I am working up the courage to try a henna treatment. For me going natural has been one interesting journey! I am so into natural hair these day – I think I should find me a job doing something with hair or in the hair industry.

Thanks chicas! Lorraine, that's my new eye candy, and Maria I got the shirt from Target a few years ago- it says Coca Cola on the front, hence, 'drink the good thing'.

  • Maria says:

Nikki where did you get that shirt? I noticed that it says Toma Lo Bueno.

  • Lorraine says:

OOOOOh! Muy bonita. Great progress and gorgeous rock ;0)

  • J. says:

Great progress. Keep up the good work!
