Brittany shares her transition story with the CurlyNikki.com community!
CN: Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
Brittany: I was definitely a short term transitioner. I wanted to go natural since I was in high school but my mom wasn’t going to allow her daughter to walk around with a nappy head. So once I got the courage (and support from my godmother who is also natural), I grew out my relaxer for 2 months and BC’d before my mom could convince me otherwise!
CN: When did you BC? What was your initial reaction to your natural hair?
Brittany: I Bc’d on December 22, 2008 (my birthday). I was doing my hair (which was already short) and when I pulled out the clippers to shape up my hair, I decided to cut the rest off the relaxed ends. I loved it!!!!!
CN: What was your transition routine (products included)?
Brittany: Well, I just continued my same routine. I washed and conditioned weekly using Aphogee products and DC’d monthly with Pantene.
CN: What was your staple hair style during the transition?
Brittany: Well since my hair was already short I just wore it flat and let it wave up. I couldn’t really do anything else with it.
CN: Why did you choose to go natural?
Brittany: Like I said, I always wanted to go natural as long as I could remember. Every time I meet a natural sista I noticed they were typically more confident in themselves and comfortable in there own skin. Not that their hair was the only reason for this confidence, but I felt like it played a part. In school I was always a loner, and I would try so hard to fit in. If I had to change my hair, the way I dressed, or my personality to fit in, I would. So by the time I graduated high school I had no clue who I was as a person (which is a scary thing to realize). From that point I started doing some major soul searching. So when I decided to go natural it was my way of letting my family, the world, and myself know that I am the one in control of me. It was a major turning point in my life that has played a major part in who I am and who I will become.

This is a very beautiful story. Self discovery is wonderful.
Your hair looks great. You also look happier with your natural hair!
You and your hair are beautiful! Thank God for your godmother's encouragement.
Thanks everyone! I just love the way us curly girls support each other.
I am currently using the CG (Curly Girl) method and I typically wear a wash & go.
My routine is:
1)Co wash daily with Suave
2) Condition with either GF's Sleek& Shine or Nature's Gate mixed with Suave Humectant then rinse
3) Use GF's Sleek& Shine as a leave-in with a drop of honey
4) Style with Kinky Curly Curling Custard
5) Seal with a 50-50mix of olive oil and coconut oil
6) Use the same oil mix for a weekly overnight treatment
7) Overnight DC weekly with Cholesterol Shea butter mango & honey.
Doing both the oil and DC weekly may seem like a lot but it is great for my hair that is extra dry with out it. My hair has been softer, shinier and more defined since I started this about 2 months ago.
Hope this helps! Much love & nappiness!
God bless 😉
