Tyra’s Going Natural?!–Continued…

By January 27th, 202123 Comments

Hola Chicas!

So we all know that Tyra will be revealing her ‘natural’ hair next season–“…for the season 5 premiere, I will be doing just that – no fake hair, I’m rocking my REAL hair. This will all be going down on September 8, 2009, which we’re declaring National Real Hair Day!”

From previous threads (and the previous hair show), we have expressed our opinion on what the show shouldn’t be about. So now, dish on what you’d like to see on the upcoming show!

Later Gators,
Nik

p.s. I’m announcing a Giveaway today…stay tuned 😀

I think is was a waste of time, she revealed her real hair not her natural hair, just hype omg

I think she is talking about wearing her own real relaxed hair without a weave or lace wig. I don't think she going to go far as natural but I can't wait to see her hair either way its about time.

She's going to reveal her REAL hair-this does NOT mean she is going to rock an afro. I think people are getting very hopeful and waiting to see big bountiful coils. Like many of you, I want to see it too-although I want to see her actual length stretched as well lol. We shall see….But don't be surprised if it's relaxed or straightened out.

  • Alicia says:

She said no weave, but does her "real hair" equal "natural"? Did she say that she isn't relaxed?

  • Natural Hair says:

Tyra has already revealed her natural hair. It's gorgeous and long. She was on ANTM when she did it.

I don't know how long it is now, but then she had a beautiful and full afro.

On the upcoming show, I'd like to talk to Chris Rock, promote Good Hair, and talk to men from all races and backgrounds about their opinions on natural hair. She should really get a diverse panel for that.

maybe she should have a vote determine her natural hair style– sort of a get-back for all those poor girls she tortured for their make overs "we're gonna bleach your black hair pure white" "We're gonna cut your waist length hair into a pixie" Come on! sometimes it looks better but sometimes its just cruel.

i am not a tyra banks fan but i am a fan of ANTM. I think Tyra always tries to make statements about everything and here is another one like shes trying to always prove something, if its not about her wieght its about her constantly trying to come across as a real person. I'm tired of her.

Though I would like to see what it looks like.. nothing special as her weaves were sooo bad anyway.

Oops, Sellara is not a natural. My bad.

Hmm … Everytime I see anything about natural hair afros, locs, and twists are always featured. What about naturals with textures and styles like Amel Larrieux, Rachel True, Curlynikki, and fotki members Zahara, Serenity326, Sellara, Chicoro, and Iris, and many more. I work in corporate environments and everytime they need a picture representating a black american woman they get a picture of someone with an afro, locs, or twists. I'm not hating on those styles, just would like to see diverse styles showcased.

  • Namun says:

I'm not a fan of Tyra's show, I do hope she's sincere about going natural though. I would like to see something on hair stylists that work with curly/kinky hair and why they seem so hard to come by and why most stylist don't know how to work with kinky hair.

Who cares??!! I mean really, who cares about anything that these so called celebrities do?

  • Maria says:

South Loop Social Light, you beat me to it! I also wanted to say I DON'T want to see the same old corn rows. Assuming she's natural I'd like to see her do a cute wash and go or braid out. If she doesn't have natural hair, I'd like to see her do a cute straight style or bob.

Hmm…her having a show showing women with the various categories of curly/kinky hair who embrace their natural selves, talking about how under-represented curly/kinky heads are in media, and them being asked about their routines and lifestyles. I think by including all the variations of curly/kinky it doesn't make the show exclusive to black women, and empowers women in general to embrace who they are naturally. Oh, and her not talking about herself the whole damn time, but I'm sure that's reaching.

  • Anonymous says:

I agree that I would like to see her hair styled in a way other than cornrows. I would also like for there to be only real heads of hair in the audience and amongst the guests. Real hair for everyone!!

  • Ishea says:

I don't care about seeing her big chop live. I do, however, agree with Teresa and would enjoy seeing natural celebs interviewed about their routine. Also, having her showcase different products, etc. Maybe having an audience full of natural women… that'd be a great show.

  • Teresa says:

I want to see natural celebs interviewed about their hair, like Tracee Ellis Ross and divas from ANTM.

I agree, a live BC would be awesome, Tyra or a joe schmo.

  • Anthony says:

Interesting. It'd be nice to see Tyra go natural and show the masses that highly textured hair can be just as fierce as a long blonde wig. We need to teach our youth this NOW. My daughter hates her naps, and it breaks my heart when I see her pining behind her straight haired counterparts.

I think I'd like to see the issue tackled head on instead of folks beating around the bush, or doing the obvious, which is arguing about straight versus nappy. That is tired, and we need to get the root of things before we can move forward. It should be a fun show, but informative and serious as well.

  • kita says:

I agree with the 'no two heads are a like' idea, and would love to see that as well! Like a showcase of different hair types and looks, all beautiful and glamorous in their own way.

  • Mae says:

Ooo I like the BC live idea! I would also love to see some African American celebrities with natural hair come on the show, as well as a panel of natural hair ladies just showing the many different types of natural hair that exist. No natural head is alike : )

  • Anonymous says:

I'd like to see her BC…live!

  • Ishea says:

I'd love to see Tyra actually rock a cute style and NOT cornrows!!!! Everytime she gets on her soap box about taking out her weave, etc she resorts to cornrows. I'm over them. lol…
