Though celebrities are in the public eye, they should not be considered role models for our children. It's our job to instill in them the tools they need for high self-esteem. Keeping the lines of communication open with our children and reassuring them that they can express any thought or emotion that they have with us, without judgement is key to raising emtionally sound and healthy children. We cannot control what happens on TV but we can control what happens in our homes.
I am pretty late with this, but I have a pretty hectic schedule right now in my life work and go school full time, so I just got a chance to see Tyra's good hair episode. And I think that the discussion was pretty good, but I notice a habit with black female talk show hosts besides Tyra because it is not just her, but when they have these shows on black hair they come in with an afro on their head or corn-rolls, LOL! It's like why are you playing? I care about our children especially the ones who fal prey to low self esteem beauty which is our females. These black female hosts wear their hair in a natural style for a day, ONE DAY! And then they go back to wigs, and permed, processed styles so all they are saying to these kids is I really feel comfortable when I have my hair straight I feel more comfortable that way, I do not like my natural hair. And in reality what are they really teaching our children? It's a joke, and the excuse they all use my hair is just easier to deal with, no it's not! Your either combing the roots out to get that kink out when the new growth comes in from your perm or your blowdrying it which can hurt! I place no geat in my hair and I don't wince when I do my hair either there is no pain.
