1. I did my hair today (in preparation for a banquet Tuesday night), despite feeling lazy- – detangled, conditioned, braided, and jumbo flexi-rodded in preparation for a dry braid-out tomorrow. I’m known to be heavy handed with products (even though I know my best hair days result from VERY little leave-in), and after putting away my hair goodies and cleaning off the sink, it caught my eye. An untouched bottle of Wen Hair Care Volumizing Leave-in Spray… a product sent to me as a promotional gift during the holiday season, and I had yet to get around to it. Being completely impulsive, I grabbed it and generously spritzed my already set hair…making sure to get in all the nooks and crannies. After (key word) I finished, I glanced at the ingredients, and OMG. Why in the hell was the first ingredient SD Alcohol… I think Witch Hazel (an astringent) was next?! Are you friggin’ kidding me?!
After an hour long styling session, I rendered my efforts futile by applying a very pungent smelling devil spray. Please my curly divas… read the ingredients before you proceed, even if you think the brand is reputable, packaged beautifully, and sold by a respectable company. Also, stick to the script! Before doing my hair I always plan out exactly what products I’ll use in advance… usually though, I end up adding one or two conditioners just for good measure. Not a good habit… obviously.
Now I sit here typing into space… with crunchy braids… hoping against hope that my hair will be salvageable tomorrow. I truly don’t have time to re-wash my hair.
2. On a happier note, I interviewed the gorgeous Tracie Thoms and my oh my was she candid! I’ll post the link tomorrow for you to check it out. She answered many of your questions– dishing on her kinky twist routine, hair color, transition to natural, opinions about natural hair in the media, and even provided us with a thorough list of her favorite products! Truly one of the best interviews yet… I definitely learned a lot from her 🙂
Oh, and Happy Valentines Day! Hope it was special 😀 Any curly proposals today?!
Later Gators,
Nik
This is sooo late but I had to comment. I recently did the same thing…followed my usual routine and for some odd reason decided to add some Carol's Daughter Khoret Amen leave in cond. to my twist out. My hair came out so crunchy and stripped and for lack of better words disgusting! I will from now on pay great attention to ingredients not just the maker.

Thanks for this post. I recently purchased a shampoo from Jane Carter; an impulsive buy because I just happened to see it in the store. Did not bother to read the ingredients cuz it's all natural, good for you Jane Carter, right? What's the third ingredient i noticed when i got home-sodium sulfate. So now i know to be more discerning, nevermind the advertising and word of mouth.
squeeeeeeeeallll!!! I can't wait for the tracie thoms interview, LOVE her!

I wish I could be half as patient w/ my hair, as you are w/ yours.
Maybe I wouldn't chop it off so often.
