Ni-Kiya’s back by popular demand, and this time she’s sharing her TWA styling secrets. Check her out!
Hey Nikki ,
It’s Ni-kiya again! After appearing on your blog, I was asked about the products I use for my TWA (teeny weeny afro), and how I style it. So I did a video for the ladies wanting to know. Hope it is useful.
Thanks my Caribbean Sister! I just did the big chop and this really helped!
Loved the video, watched a few others she has on youtube and loved those too. Just went out and bought the Hollywood Beauty olive oil mositurizer and got a free cholestorol conditioner, hope they work π
Loved the tutorial! AND the makeup! You should totally have a makeup feature as well. Anywho… I bought the EcoStyler Gel, but like they said, what works for one person, may not work for another. While I love the product to lay down my edges, I do not get the same effect as you do π Still, thanks for the intro to the new product.
Thannnnnnnnnkk you so much for posting this!I did this style this morning, using KCCC after washing/conditioning. My curls looked awesome; and my hubby, as well as people at work noticed the difference! Thanks again for sharing! -abb
Thanks Ni-Kiya!!! I have a TWA for the 2nd time….this time I feel clueless. I neeed this tutorial to get my MOJO back. Blessings sis. You look FAB!
Hi…. i really luv this tut.
I tried to do this technique and all my hair wanted to do was do its own thing…. How many times did you henna before doing this hairstyle?
Plus do you have any advice?
Thanks
Her hair came out very pretty but I don't have the patience. Oh and her eyeshadow is really cute!
This video was so fun to watch and very imformative……..i dont have a TWA but I dont know how to style my hair so i just have been putting it in braids….i will love to try this style in the summertime……..cant wait for make-up tutorials!!
She's so pretty. The eye makeup is the bomb. And of course, the TWA rocks.
Anon – I use V05 kiwi / clarifying conditioner. To wash I use either a sulfate shampoo if it feels gunky or Dr. Bronner Peppermint Soap. To condition I use a mixture of conditioners, baking soda, honey, molasses, henna, coconut oil and glycerin. It really makes my curls pop after the shampoo
thelady – I use Chandrika Soap or African Black Soap (the type that looks like toot). Moisturiser = shea butter when i'm home or Neutrogena Hydroplex Sunblock when im going to work
looking forward to the makeup tutorial and I'd also like to know what face cleanser and moisturizer you use because you skin looks flawless
Ni-Kiya, what products do you use to co-wash or wash and condition?
Thanks so much Ni-Kiya. Very helpful vid. π
Thanks everyone . To the Anon that asked .. when you first do it .. it will take a while … but then as you go on it will shorten to about 30 minutes. It never took me less than that, but it also isn't something I do everyday. To me it's like a protective style for a twa, in that you are blending the textures together so that they don't wrap around each other and form knots or mini hair strand knots. So its like twists for a twa . I prefer to take care of my hair while it is short so that when it grows , I don't have to do much trimming (or detangling)
p.s. makeup tutes coming soon
Def gonna try this. I just wonder how long it takes? She is adorable and so is her accent! π
Great video! I can't wait to try this out! And the make-up is bangin!!
Great video! Love, love, love your hair and your makeup and skin are flawless!
Hair looks great! I will try this method. You eye makeup is fierce!
thanks for posting. my hair is somewhat longer than a twa but trust i don't know what i'm doing anyway. just did a psuedo bc not even 3 wks ago. my hair has diff textures too. looser curls(almost 'straight') where a mohawk would be and tight curls everywhere else. gonna try that eco gel and see if i love it as much as everyone else. loved the commenting/editing btw- hilarious. π i am the same with the randomness.
This video is something that I had been looking for for so long! I can not wait to try it!!! My hair is curly, coily, and straight. I have different textures everywhere. I am so excited! Thanks for sharing!
OMGβ¦Thank You Thank You…I just did the Big Chop on Sunday and was not sure how to style my TWA. I can't wait to give it a try in the morning. By the way your makeup is fierce.
I wish I would have seen this video when my hair was that length! It turned out soooo good! You look beautiful as well girl!
both you and your hair are gorgeous!!
This looks great! BTW, How come the comments aren't showing up as comments until after you go to post one…
This is just the technique im for!!! I was growing bored and running out of ideas for my TWA. My hair is the same texture when its washed. Frizzy and curly in some areas. center is straight but overall just frizzy.i got about a inch and a half so this is perfect…Thank you!!!
btw your make is nice!!!
U r stunning!!!!!!! omg! Wonderful hair! Lovin the make-up!
OK…
1. OMG your eye makeup is HOT! I know the tutorial was not for that, but I love makeup as much as hair so I had to give u hand claps for that look. LOL
2. I no longer have a TWA, BUT I do have several different textures all mixed up on my head and I experience frizz, also. I am going to try your technique of layering the shea butter and the eco styler gel (also my fave gel) and finger coiling to see what effect I get. You gave me an idea!
3. I love the tattoos.
OK I'm done. LOL
Hair looks great! Actually makes me think I could rock a high-sytle TWA! Nice video, now in my favorites. Thanks!
Her hair looks awesome, but I really think I'm too lazy to do this…maybe on a Saturday?
