GG’s post this morning was very powerful and totally relatable. I think it would be beneficial for each and everyone of us to reflect on our lives… our blessings… our achievements. We need to make an effort to shift toward a positive mindset.
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, we have a tendency to be negative. We filter out the good things that happen to us, and focus in and harp on the bad– we constantly tell ourselves negative things. These self-defeating thoughts can result in depressed mood, irritability, anxiety, and low self-esteem. This is where affirmations come in…
An affirmation can help you replace a negative thought with a more helpful positive one. By using the power of positive affirmations and by repeating them you can recondition your brain and change how you feel and think about any situation (your appearance, your hair, a relationship, etc.). You can choose to be happy, no matter the circumstances! At a personal level it will transform your life, your health and renew the joy and passion for life.
Every morning, either before rising, or during my daily walk, I repeat the same positive affirmations over and over again to myself… sometimes aloud! This habit keeps me in good spirits, and reminds me of the things I have to be grateful for. I feel it also attracts more good to me– positive people and uplifting situations.
Here’s my list:
-I’m happy and blessed that I have a loving and caring husband and family.
-I’m blessed that this pregnancy has been complication free, and that both myself and baby are healthy.
-I’m thankful to be able to provide this platform for us to share, learn, and support each other in all things hair and life in general.
-I will be a good mother.
-I will be able to juggle all of my responsibilities. And if I can’t, it’s not the end of the world.
-I can choose happiness…no matter the circumstances.
-I am flexible and always open to change.
-I am beautiful on the inside and out.
-I love my waves, curls, kinks, and coils… even on days that they don’t love me back!
I am truly learning to let go and let God.
I am a good mother.
I have two beautiful caring children.
I thank God for the legacy my dear departed parents left for me.
I have wonderful family and friends
I have made steps and will continue to make steps to becoming the person I want to be.
I have God's love
I am making steps to accepting myself
I will soon be who I want to be with the help of the Lord
I will grow in the Lord
I will be positive
Hi, Nikki! I will not tell you that you will be perfect, but as long as you are guided by the Lord and motivated by love, your daughter will be blessed to have you for a mother.
Reading these responses, I feel the Spirit stirring within me. It is good to see these; keep them coming, Loves.
– "Thou thinkest, Lord, of me, Thou thinkest, Lord, of me! What need I fear, when Thou art near and thinkest, Lord, of me?!" (from a hymn)
– "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust'" (Psalm 91:1-2)
– Power belongs to God!
– ", , , He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Phillipians 1:6)
– "I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD." (Psalm 118:17)
– God is still on His throne, and it's gonna be alright!
-As long as there is a breath in my lungs and a beat to my heart, there is a reason to hope. (This was a reminder to me from the Lord and became my mantra during the deepest, darkest, scariest depression of my entire life. I try to remember it always.)
-When I let go of anger, bitterness cannot take hold in me. As long as I walk in forgiveness, I will not walk alone. (This was a revelation from yesterday's sermon at church that finally helped me connect some pieces in my life. It is the answer I needed to refute a fear that has tried to dominate my life for a long time.)
And here are my four favorite quotations: "Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation." —Ethan Trueblood
"Love is an act of faith, and whoever is of little faith is also of little love." —Eric Fromm
"In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity." —Philip Melankthon
"In this life, it is impossible to know all the answers. The one who cannot be content with mystery will miss six of seven wonders." -Yours truly 🙂

My affirmations tend to be based upon the holy scriptures, because I read my bible every morning to set the tone for my day. I truly feel that becoming the type of person I want to be is a daily practice. It is very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this world, and lose yourself in the process. No weapon formed against me or mine shall prosper; the Lord is my Shepherd, therefore I have no need to want for anything and I trust and believe He will provide everything I need, when I need it; I shall have no fear of anything that is not of HIM; I am because He Is and that’s all good! I pray to be a blessing in someone’s life on a daily basis. Amen.
