Kinky Curly Coily Me! shares her experience with Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie:
In search of a product to help define my hair into something that resembled curls, I chatted with my natural hair sisters on Twitter. I got lot’s of feedback and decided to purchase the Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie from Target for $9.99 for 12 ounces.
The first thing I did in the store was read the ingredients. There’s a long list of ingredients NOT found in the product. This was great because I’m learning what to stay away from and this just made it easier.

After reading all of this in excitement, I opened the jar to assess the texture and the WONDERFULLY AMAZING fragrance hit me! BAM!
This product smells delicious! You really feel like you can eat it… it’s very strong, but subtle at the same time.
As you can see from the pics this product has a very thick consistency–which my frizzy hair needs.
When I got home, I was so excited to finally get really defined curls. I slathered this product in my hair and then flat-twisted. I went to sleep and when I loosened my flat-twists they were gloopy, sticky, and not anything like I expected. My hair looked grey and I had white chunks all
over. The curls were hardly defined at
all… it just looked a complete mess!
I was very disappointed. After thinking about it, I figured out what I did wrong.
Well for starters, I didn’t sit under a dryer to allow the product to dry properly and I was definitely heavy handed during application. I used so much because I watched a Miss Jessies tutorial on how to use their Baby Butter Creme and they used lots and lots of product on dry hair, so of course I thought I could do the same with any other product on the market, right? WRONG!
I couldn’t give up on this product though. It has all the right ingredientsand it has none of the wrong ones. It smells delicious and its called Curl
Enhancing Smoothie for goodness sake!
So a week later, I tried the product again. I cowashed my hair, added my oils and then rubbed some (a quarter size amount) of the product in my hands and then massaged onto my hair. I then proceeded to set my infamous two strand twists so I could wear a twist-out. As I set each section of hair, I would rub a very small amount of the Curl Enhancing Smoothie on it from root to tip and then twist.
The next morning when I woke up, I could immediately see a difference in my hair, even before untwisting. It was shiny and it looked smooth and soft. I was eager to untwist each twist! After rubbing oil on my hair to prepare it for loosening, I began untwisting. My coils were tighter then ever! OMG!
They weren’t hard or crunchy at all. They were smooth, soft and really defined! My coils just popped back into place when I pulled on them as opposed to frizzing up. Hubby even commented on my hair, he said, “your hair is really curly”.
What had me even more impressed was how long my hair remained shiny. On the fourth day it still had shine!
While in the beauty supply store a few women commented on my hair (that made my day!)
I JUST LOVE THIS PRODUCT.
