Self-Concept Thursdays
Hola Chicas!

Was it just me, or were last week’s Affirmation posts empowering?! I thought it’d be a great idea to keep it going… kinda like we do the Natural Hair Compliments post, just more frequent.

Remember that an affirmation can help you replace a negative thought (ex. I’ll never find love) with a more helpful positive one (ex. I’m worthy of love, and I will find it in time). By using the power of positive affirmations and by repeating them, you can recondition your brain and change how you feel and think about any situation (your appearance, your hair, a relationship, etc.). You can choose to be happy, no matter the circumstances! It will transform your life.

Share your affirmations here, but remember to revisit and reflect on them everyday– in the evening before retiring, in the morning before rising, during prayer, meditation, or while exercising! This is one habit you need to develop!

My Affirmations for 7/1/10:

-I’m blessed to have a husband that puts up with my shenanigans.

-I will be ready when baby comes.

-I am beautiful and healthy.

-I am strong.

-I am happy and loved.

***I’m doing an all call for inspirational quotes, videos, short blogs, and articles that relate to improving self-esteem, and developing a positive body image and sense of self. We’ll call it Self-Concept Thursdays! Send your submissions to nikki@curlynikki.com using Self-Esteem as the subject line.

In the meantime, leave your Positive Affirmations below!***

Also, check out this video submitted by Robin.

Hi, Nikki! I really enjoyed your post about affirmations. I came across this short clip several weeks back and I LOVE it! I particularly love when she shouts out, “I love my hair”! I hope you’ll enjoy – I’ve watched several times and I’m always fired up as a result.

Later Gators,
Nik

Also, it really helps not to only say them in your mind – but say the positive affirmation out loud!!! There is something about actually hearing yourself say it out loud. Hope this helps!

I am thankful and blessed that my husband, my children, and I are all healthy.
SN: My sis-in-law, age 38, is in hospice with liver and bone cancer. She survived breast cancer 5 years ago, and it came back last Nov. God works miracles everyday, and I am claiming victory for her, and along with positive thoughts, I believe in the power of prayer. Please say a special prayer for her. She is the mother of two young boys age 7 and age 9.

  • Jazz Stanton (The Date Experiment) says:

I am a "lurker" on Moptop Maven's blog and I ran across this quote the other day:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson

I just thought it was so inspirational and true. Everyone feels inadequate at times and this is something to think about when we do feel that way.

You're not here to just get by. You're here to live life with excellence.
Excellence requires your focused effort and devotion. Excellence comes from your commitment to getting it right.
Excellence is well worth all that effort and commitment. When you live with excellence, you live at life's highest level.
If you're going to do something, do what's necessary to do it with excellence. If you're going to spend the time and make the effort, make enough effort to make it great.
You are absolutely capable of achieving excellence in your own unique ways. Why would you settle for anything less?
Instead of merely getting by, get excited about your best possibilities. And then get going on fulfilling them with excellence.
The whole world is lifted higher by those who choose to create excellence. Be a source of relentless excellence and truly make a difference.
