Hey Curly Nikki and soon to be cute baby girl!

Time sure does fly doesn’t it?! It seems like just yesterday that you announced you were prego! Anywho, in regards to my lovely mane, time really does fly! My one year anniversary (since I BC’d) was May 17, 2010 and I wanted to share some pics with you and the curly hair community. I can’t believe that in just one year, my hair has surpassed the length that it was when my hair was 100% relaxed. Wowser.

I’ve recently received some emails from other ladies who are having some challenges with their hair during the summer months, transitioning, and most off all, patience! I thought submitting some photos of my journey might encourage others to stick it out, be patient and learn how to love and embrace their OWN hair! I also wanted to thank you for all of the Henna posts. I read them over and over and over again for about 2 months straight, until I finally decided to take the plunge and try it. Boy am I a happy girl that I did! I love Henna and have become very addicted to the process and the results! Can you believe I even love the smell! Hehe 🙂 I have been Henna’ing once a week for the last several months and have noticed that my hair hardly sheds, is stronger than ever, is bigger than it used to be and I absolutely adore the red rent. I haven’t experienced ANY loosening, nor has my texture changed. Truth be told, I was kind of hoping for my curls to loosen just a tad bit, but it seems like they are tighter and pop more than they ever did before! Ahhh well, we’re never satisfied are we?! lol….Anywho, here are the two collages that I put together.

Thanks for doing what you do and for being so fabulous while doing it!

I have not had a perm in 2 years.

i assume my hair is natural at this point.

I'm in dire need of a trim.

my roots get very curly when wet but some of my ends still take on the "Z" form.

Can I just chop off an inch or keep my hair trimmed so it can all be curly & healthy…

By the way Cantu Shea Butter (leave in conditioner) is the best product made for Natural African American Hair

…& works great on twist outs applied when wet ovcourse!

I've just decided to go natural. Currently my hair reaches almost to the middle of my back. I am going to grow out my perm and see how that works.

Thanks for all of the compliments everyone!!! Y'all are awesome! I'll try to answer all of the questions:

I Henna once a week as an extra deep conditioning agent. Sometimes I let the mix sit overnight, but most of the time, I only let it sit for about an hour. After applying the Henna I usually sleep in it.

I rotate between the following products: Organix, HE Hello Hydration, Kinky Curly, Aubrey Organix HoneySuckle and Giovanni.

My last relaxer was August 2008. I transitioned for 9 months before I BC'd. The pic on the first collage, on the first row, is about a week after my BC.

Your hair is amazing!!!! How much new growth do you have? I know you BC'd a year ago but how much time has passed since your last relaxer?

Such a WONDERFUL inspiration to a recent BC'er like me (BC'd on 5/31/10). Gorgeous hair & AMAZING growth!

How long was your hair when you BC'd? In other words, how in the world did you get all that growth in 1 year? LOL

    Your hair is beautiful!
What kind of products do you use? Do you stay away from silicones and sulfates?

  • Skeeta says:

How cute is her hair!! I would love to know.. how long she transitioned and how long she lets her henna mixture sit before she applies it.

Thanks for the encouragement, we need it! ;o)

WOW!!! That is great inspiration. I transitioned for 10 months and cant wait to se where I am in a year. My hair is already almost the same length it was before I started transitioning.

@Irendi you will be there before you know it!!!

Wow!!! Beautiful pictures. I've decided to transition for about 6 months before I chop off the relaxed bits. This is encouragement!
