CN: Have you always embraced your natural curls? If not, who or what inspired you?
No, I was always changing my hair from relaxed to curly perm, back to relaxed. I finally decided I had enough of putting chemicals in my hair in September 2008 when I decided I wanted to go natural and embrace my curls. My decision was inspired by the lovely natural hair community on Youtube, where there are ladies with all different hair textures and lengths and it really got me thinking, if they can embrace their hair relaxer free, then why can’t I.
CN: How have family, friends, and strangers responded to your curls? How do you respond to them?
My family loves my hair in its natural state. They love the styles I wear. My friends are split– some love it and others ain’t as keen on it, which is fine, I didn’t expect everyone to be in love with my hair. The most important thing is that I love my hair.
CN: What are your must have products?
Since this is my first year natural, I have definitely been bitten by the product junkie bug. I have been trying out products from all different companies. Now I think that my need for new hair products is slowly fazing out and I do have some products that I feel have stood out from the rest.
