I Big Chopped- Kanisha

By January 27th, 202110 Comments
Meet Kanisha… another Big Chopper who is happy with her decision.

I Big Chopped- Kanisha

CN: When you first chopped, what were your thoughts and feelings?
I was kind of shocked that I actually had the courage to do it! LOL! I planned to be a long term
transitioner (12-18 months) but I chopped it off after only six months.

CN: How do you feel now?
I LOVE the texture of my hair but sometimes I wish I would’ve waited a little longer to cut it off. I’ve just been so anxious for it to grow! Manipulating a TWA gets difficult at times, but I thank God I’m Natural. 😉

CN: How did you cope with the responses from you family and friends?
People said some pretty mean things in the beginning. I got all sorts of rude comments. But I just reminded myself that I love it, I told myself to forget about them! Everyone’s not going to like my hair, and that’s life. I’m the one who has to live with the hair on my head, so I’m the one who has to love it.

CN: What are you plans for you hair?
I plan to just let it grow and grow! I want to continue to try different products, and really get to know my hair, so that I can “listen” to it.

CN: Do you find it necessary to ‘doll up’ your look to feel more feminine?
NOPE! lol. I’ve always worn flowers and headbands. But I never wear makeup. It’s just not my style at this point in my life. I wear it on occasion, but only if my sister feels like making me up. I don’t know how to do makeup! 🙁 LOL. But I don’t really care. I think ALL women look better without it anyways.

CN: How do you keep it moisturized?
Once I get out of the shower, and it’s still really wet, I put in a leave in conditioner and seal it with oil. From there, I spritz my hair with water on the daily! My hair loves it.

CN: What products and techniques do you use to style? How often do you style?
Usually, I do a twistout. I would do twistouts every day or every other day. But I didn’t want to do my hair every single day anymore, because I was using up a lot of product QUICKLY so I put in some Senegalese twists.I Big Chopped- Kanisha
CN: How do you get your waves or curls popping?
Ecostyler Gel! It’s great!

CN: How do you preserve your curls as night?
At night, I just put on my satin scarf!

Girl, trust me when I say that the very same people with the "mean comments" about your TWA, will be the ones wanting to worship your fro a year later, guys AND girls alike! They'll tell you "you know you look way better natural than you did relaxed," haha. Then you can laugh if you're not laughing already :-). You look faaaaaaaabulous! As long as you're fine with the way you look, that's all that matters :-).

Hi all, I have decided to go natural for the second time. Initially I did the BC in December 2009, because my hair was so damaged. I am 31 and cannot remember the last time my hair was really healthy. I had my first relaxer at about age ten and have not looked back since then, until I did the BC. I have tried every hairstyle you can think of, I spent thousands trying to be happy with the styles that are deemed acceptable for African Americans. I am at a stage now where I don't like any fake hair anymore, it's as though I am coming into my own and is finally accepting my true beauty. The problem is my husband is not supportive at this point, he feels as I grow it out(long-term transition) however, when I take my braids out at the end of September I want to be liberated and just do a BC. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I strongly believe that while it is nice when my husband loves my hair, it should ultimately be my choice how I wear it. He is aware of the amount of money that have been spent over the years to change my hairstyles, but I do think he really understands hair.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was all natural years ago, but relaxed it out of the pressure of looking the part for the sake of professional employment. Recently, I decided to chop the relaxed hair off since it was breaking due to the frequency of healthy new growth followed by the chemical "Touch-ups". I was a little apprehensive, but I love the way my "Real" good hair feels. It's like my scalp is finally breathing. I am looking forward to experiencing all of the new growth!
