CN: When you first chopped, what were your thoughts and feelings? How do you feel now?
Its been almost a month! I BC’ed on July 13, 2010. My first thought was- – I can’t believe I did this! Which was quickly followed by, “Yeah boy!” I was suppose to be a long term transitioner because I liked having a full head of hair and wanted to be able to style it. However, I was having lots of issues with knots and getting sick of having to give life to my relaxed ends. I walked in the bathroom intending to just trim off my monthly inch or so when poof! I cut it all off.
CN: How did you cope with the responses from your family and friends?
Luckily, I didn’t receive any bad responses from my friends. One said ‘what the eff’?! But besides that, everyone liked it. I had cut my hair into a short hair style a few years ago and everyone likes the way short hair fits my face. I haven’t seen my family because they live so far away, but I expect to be the talk of Christmas, LOL!
CN: What are your plans for your hair? I want my hair to grow! Grow! GROW!! I want to see if natural hair will get me to the desired full head of hair I’ve always longed for.
CN: Do you find it necessary to ‘doll up’ your look to feel more feminine?
No. I like my makeup to look natural. But I do like accessories. I don’t have to wear them but since I can’t style my hair much I love a little something to make it more special. My fav accessories are either a hair comb with a feather on it or a big white flower I got from Forever 21.
CN: How do you keep it moisturized?
I wash my hair several times a week; usually with Hair One from Sally’s. Then I take a little shea butter and melt it with my hands. I add a dime size amount of Desert Essence Organics Coconut Conditioner and put that on my hair. I seal with either coconut oil or olive oil with a few drops of rosemary oil mixed in.
CN: What products and techniques do you use to style? How often do you style?
I use mainly the products above; however, if I want to make my curls really pop I use Sebastian Wet. I love that stuff but I do in the future want to try more products. I’m in the beginning of my process so I have lots of experimenting to do! Product Junkie here I come!
Also, I DO NOT SLEEP WITHOUT A SATIN SCARF!
