Self Esteem– Two words that pack a powerful meaning. A meaning so powerful it can either ruin your life or make it the most fulfilling possible. Fortunately we are able to choose but most people allow it to choose them. You see, our brain does what we tell it to do. If we wallow in self loathing and consistently pick at ourselves, the subconscious tells us that we are nothing and sadly, we believe it. Once we’re so focused on the negative, it’s hard to think about the positive.
However, if we repeatedly remind ourselves of all the blessings we have and pay attention to the wonderful attributes we possess there’s no telling how far we’ll go in the future. Confidence goes a long way, and once you understand that, NOTHING anyone says will stop you! When others try to force their pessimism on you, realize that it’s their own insecurities being projected. Also know that somewhere else in the world a person wasn’t granted the opportunity to see another day but YOU were. Every waking moment is a chance to turn things around, so look at your reflection in the mirror tell yourself you are perfectly fine and success is on the way. You will be happy you did later 🙂
I’m doing an all call for inspirational quotes, videos, short blogs, and articles that relate to improving self-esteem, and developing a positive body image and sense of self. We’re calling it Self-Concept Thursdays! Send your submissions to nikki@curlynikki.com using Self-Esteem as the subject line.
***In the meantime, leave your Positive Affirmations below!***

" If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you've already won before you started. " – Marcus Garvey
I used to laugh when older folks said they "claimed" something and therefore it would happen. But now I realize that "claiming" is having faith and believing in God and in myself. I feel good about myself and "claim" the best life I can have. basicwoman.blogspot.com/
Oh and I almost forgot my self affirmation…currently rockin out a braid out done on dry stretched hair and feelin' very diva-ish! 🙂
I woke up with an old gospel fav in my head….it says the Lord is my Shepard, I have everything I need.
I have been going through HUGE faith tests lately and I'm striving to truly, truly trust my heavenly Father…ie no stressing about it. Saying this simple line from that great song…helps me center, focus, and realize I truly do, have everything I need.
Calming…is it calming corners.com? I'm always on the lookout for great new blogs, especially the positive/inspirational blogs.
This is a great post. Self Esteem is so essential adn important to develop. So sad that at times we can be our own worst enemies. Check out Calming Corners, my lifestyle blog that has a number of inspirational articles with a flair of fashion beauty and profiles of individuals who are thinking outside the box and living their dreams. My goal is to inspire others to do the same. With that being said, Nikki I love your blog and read it many times for hair tips. Rockin the twist-out as we speak. Keep up the great work.
