Hola chicas!
It’s that time again! The images below are of CN readers at their flyyest…at work, on the town, and with the fam. Showing us all that natural hair is not a fad, it’s a way of life…an extension of our beauty! Click on the images to enlarge them:
Hi! It’s Eileen again. Here I am out the door for Fireworks and National Afro Day on July 4th. The ‘fro was super soft thanks to a Crisco deep conditioner then a co-wash with KCC’s Knot Today and an ends seal with Coconut Oil. At the Baton Rouge 4th celebration there were tons of naturals and that in itself made me feel warm and fuzzy!

Two stand twist up do, I love love love this style! I was in Monterey, CA on my way to the beach.

In this picture I’m wearing a co-wash and go. I used Aussie Moist to condish, and applied Cantu Shea Butter leave in for moisture, and to hold my curls. My hubby is sporting his locs, he’s been locked for 3 years and I’ve been natural for 2 1/2. We were chillin with the family in Kemah, Texas on the Kemah boardwalk.

This is a pic of me and my daughter at a July 4th BBQ. I am calling this style my “stretch & go” – it simulates the look of a wash and go, perhaps on day 2, without requiring me to wet my hair (my 4b/c, 5″ long hair shrinks to 1″ when wet!). This was my first attempt at this technique and I was pleased with the results.

I LOOVVVVEEEE your site! This is me 3 days after my BC! I was in my bathroom getting ready to go to lunch with a friend. This is a 3 day old coil out. π

Hey Nikki! This was my ‘do for the week. Thank goodness, because it was pretty hot and humid, I didn’t have to worry all that much. Every other day I twisted the top into chiney bumps to stretch out my hair a bit, and changed hair accessories to match what I wore π

This pic was taken while on my family vacation in Italy a few weeks back. The style– a braid out with minimal products i.e. water and EVOO, since we were ‘travelling light’.

confidence through the roof!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss Erica…
For the ladies who would like to know more about the "stretch and go" – I'm still trying to perfect it, testing different products. But in this particular picture my hair had been stretched over a few days (I put my hair in 10-15 braids each night when I go to bed).
I took the braids down then began to take small sections of my hair and smooth Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to the ENDS ONLY. I was sure to start with a very small amount,to avoid buildup, raking and smoothing the ends until the curls popped. Because the Shea Moisture Smoothie has no real hold, I then melted a tiny bit of shea butter in between my index finger and thumb and smoothed that over the ends of the section. Finally, to individualize the curls I broke my hair up into even smaller sections (from the section just completed) and twirled the ends around my finger a couple of times to create cute, coiled ends. I continued this process, selectively over my entire head. I say selectively because 1) I have some 4a sections that didnt need any coaxing and 2)I left the areas around my crown and side part alone to keep maximum length and create the shape I wanted. So the net effect was big, textured hair with defined, curled ends.
Most recently I tried the style again setting my braids @ night with KimmayTube's leave in and also applying a little to the ends when styling instead of the Shea Moisture. It worked well – better hold, lighter, with no product residue on the hair that shea butter can leave behind. Hope this was clear :-/
All the women on here look wonderful, love the different styles and colors. Keeping the natural look is a great thing and you all do it so well.
On a sad note not related to hair, I lost my babygirl "Peaches" yesterday who was a female cat. She got sick 3 weeks ago and went downhill so quickly, after getting xrays done on her yesterday it appeared that she had a tumor or cancer. I brought her home, and gave her a quick wipe down on her body. I left to go to walmart and to savannah to pick up some items. I was only gone for 2 1/2 hrs but when i got back home my heart nearly fell out of me. My little girl had tried to climb onto her favorite chair in the bedroom, but with her losing so much weight, her hind legs were weak and i found her hanging onto the chair with her hand hanging back and eyes and mouth open. She died like that and I wasn't there,my male cat logan was home. But she stayed alive these weeks, and to die alone and like that has me so heartbroken. She was with me since she was 8wks old, she had just turned 10 in march, and had never been sick in her life. To anyone who has pets just give them all your love and treasure the moements both fun and bad that you have with them, because you never know when they will leave.
I'm definitely going to steal Artistanoire's hair style! Fabulous!!!!
@ Denise..I would love to know more about your "stretch and go" also. I have the same hair type and the shrinkage is crazy!!! I'm thinking of bc again because of it…sooo if you can share more about the "stretch and go" that will give me more options..Thanks in advance.
I'd like to know how the sister in the first picture, Eileen, achieved that color. Both the color and her makeup are FIERCE
