This is interesting. I, too, have been bitten by the natural bug, mixing and whipping, pouring and measuring, and reading, reading, reading. Tonight I whipped up a batter of hair and body butter. (Shea, mango, olive, and soy butters with jojoba, olive, avocado, and coconut oils, some lavender, grapefruit, and lemon essential oils, a healthy dollop of aloe vera gel, and a little grapefruit seed as a preservative, and voila.) While at a Whole Foods store a week or so ago, I'd put a small jar of raw Shea Butter in my basket. It was expensive but I love what it does for my skin and hair, so I got four ounces. A young woman pulled my coat about buying it online, and getting a whole lot more for the same amount of money. That was it. I was off and running. I found a great website and placed my order. Wow. This stuff will last my husband and I for months. With my essential oils added, it smells heavenly and melts into the skin. Naturally, happily, healthily moving toward an unprocessed future.
I've been natural for about 13 years and BC's three times over the years. It was my natural hair journey that made me more conscious of what ingredients were in the products that I was using. I became a serious label reader for every beauty product, and now make my own hair and skin care products.
I've tried many hairstyles and have truly enjoyed the freedom and versatility of natural hair. I wish HJ the best with her natural hair journey and anyone starting out as it's one of the best things you can do for yourself.
