Dear Product Junkies…

By January 27th, 202156 Comments

Dear Product Junkies...If you have yet to try the Aussie Moist/Garnier Curl Sculpting Cream Gel combo, then you have no idea what you’re missing! I haven’t been this in love with a product combo since DevaCare One + DevaCurl Set it Free. Holy Grail status? Perhaps πŸ™‚ I’m not trying to enable you guys… I’m just sayin’… all the cool kids are doing it!

Dear Product Junkies...I was *supposed* to give Kinky Curly a whirl last weekend but after reading your suggestions of trying it with the Knot Today leave-in, I decided to hold off for a bit. I resorted to the aforementioned combo and on day 3, my curls are still soft and fluffy, defined and relatively frizz free. This is truly a keeper, and at 6 or 7 bucks total for both products, how could you not try it?!

After shampooing, DT’ing with MyHoneyChild’s Olive You (AMAZING!) and detangling with Aussie Moist, I rinsed my hair clean and got out of the shower. I waited until my hair was 70% dry, and then applied Dabur Vatika Coconut Oil to the length (concentrating on the ends) and divided my hair into two. I started with the left side and applied a silver dollar sized amount of Aussie Moist Conditioner as a leave-in. I then applied a pea sized amount of Garnier Cream Gel to each twist as I went. I repeated the same steps with the right side and then sealed the ends with Vatika oil, rolled them on flexi rods and put on my satin scarf (pirate style to help my roots and edges to lay down). In the morning, I released the twists and fluffed. I’m loving the extra control and the shine… I’m sure I’ll get a full week out of this set!

Dear Product Junkies...In other news, Gia is a friggin’ month old today! To celebrate, we took her to the NC Art Museum. Why, you ask? Because it seems that she has an affinity for the paintings hanging around the house, plus, the Art Museum rocks! I’d love to be able to tell you that she had a fabulous time, coo’ing at paintings that she found to be particularly awesome and thought provoking… but she slept the entire time.

Later Gators,
Nik

Ok, since my hair liked the aveda whip you recommended I decided to give this a try too. Target has the Garnier creme on sale for 2 for $5 so I got ONE. But I might go back and get 2 more. Why? Because I LOVE the results. I went home and co-washed because I worked out, and my hair was soaked in sweat. Ick. I followed your process, but instead I did a braid set. When I took them down it was very nicely moisturized and soft and elongated- which I love. So, thanks for the recommend. This may mean that once the defining whip is gone- it will be replaced with the garnier.

And ohhh yes- Gia is gorgeous!

  • LaToya says:

Will this combo work on a TWA?? I've never used regular conditioner as a leave in, just those made specifically for leaving in. Should I dilute it with water or just not use so much?

  • Tray says:

Nikki, Gia is the cutemost!! Those cheeks!

You caught me at a weak PJ moment cause I juuust happened to have bought the ginormous Aussie Moist bottle with the pump…off to get that Garnier – stat!

Isn't it amazing to LOVE someone sooo much? Parenthood gives a new perspective on life, especially when you see them changing and growing before your eyes… I love that she's a healthy, happy, full of crazy personality VIRGO… going to Walgreens tonight, being that I'm off every Friday, Thursday has become my new hair day. Not to mention this sweltering heat we've had in Souhern California has my hair a bit sweaty and not fresh…. A glass of wine and "hair" I come…

Congrats with the month day, i cant belive that it's already a month.

  • ChrLvsBks says:

First, Gia is beautiful! Her cheeks are like W-O-W. Enjoy them to the fullest. The best thing to do is to snuggle under her chin/cheeck area and inhale (best done after a bath).

Second, you are not helping me with this combo. I will likely try it. I hope others share how their hair like the combo. Thanks for sharing lady!

Last night I tried the combo with your half -flat twist twist out method and I'm in love !!! Especially as a college student in a land far from any ethnic beauty supply stores, the cost of this method has me in awe as well . Thank you so much , as a type 4 a, b,c hair I always thought cones would do my hair no good but my hair looks and smells great !

And your daughter is BEAUTIFUL !!!

    Nikki,

Now why would you post a picture of your absolutely GORGEOUS baby girl for this mother of 2 boys to look at??? Just when I was telling hubby that I was fine with only having our stinky (but sweet) little boys and no princess…you hit me with that picture. LOL!!!
    Enjoy motherhood!

Wonderful Gia pic, she is a doll…and enjoy the tiredness, some of us would love to have that experience, so for now we vicariously experience it through you!

Gia is ADORABLE three times over!!!!

Thanks for the info Nikki. I am going to purchase Aussie Moist as soon as I finished this new bottle of Garnier Sleek and Shine leave in that I got on sale for 2 bucks. Mixing it with Aloe Vera Gel and a dime size of Ms. Jessie's leaves my hair extremely defined, frizz-free and shiny. And baby Gia's is growing fast and oh so cute!

  • Anonymous says:

Which Aussie Moist are you using? The leave in?

Gia is precious. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I've been using the Enriched Vatika for about 2 months mixed with Mixed Chicks leave in under UFD Curly Magic for my twists and loving the results. Now I'm mixing it with Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner under the UFD with equally great results. Since I started using Vatika to seal my hair at night my hair's been loving it!

    BabyGirl is just too beautiful!!

Aww, she's too cute..getting bigger everyday.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews about Aussie Moist. Especially from women with phenomenal growth who often only use Aussie Moist. The great thing about it, other than it does such a good job is that it is only $.31 an ounce compared to Devacare One, which is $1.50 per ounce (not including tax or shipping)!!!

Aussie Moist is definitely a product I can get behind.

  • Barbara Naturally Speaking says:

Great shine on both your hair and baby Gia's! She's a natural doll!!

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

    Thanks natural83!!!

I only use a glosser on the in between days (no wet products) and I buy the cream gel in the tube.

    hth!

come back and post your results!

  • kimmie0810 says:

Question: is there a difference between the Dabur Vatika coconut oil in the white/green bottle & the Dabur Vatika ENRICHED coconut oil in the green bottle? They seem to have the same ingredients.

I only ask b/c I'm placing a big Amazon order & I can get the ENRICHED with free shipping. (I hate to pay more for shipping than the actual item costs!)

I love Aussie Moist & some of the Garnier creams & leave-ins so I might try the cream gel. Cold weather approaches & my lazy WNG days are soon over.

  • Anonymous says:

Im definitely going to try this combo Nik! I love both Aussie & Garnier products, so Im so anxious to try this now! And OMG…GIA IS A DOLL!!!!! I could just grab her lil cute self! Awwwww….Im so happy for you Nikki, and keep the pics coming!

    Hi Ms. Nikki..

I got the aussie moist yesterday, when i tried to look for the garnier they had 2 types of Curl Sculpting Cream Gel. Is it in a tube or a bottle? I didnt know which one to get. I did the Aussie moist as a leave in by itself.. it did very well. A tad crunchy.. but that was fine. It had great hold. BIG bottle with nice pump and the price was pretty good too.

  • Anonymous says:

Nikki – what products do you use on days between washes? do you put in more Aussie & Garnier?

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

Thanks ladies! Yes, go forth and try the aussie garnier combo, lol. I'm truly loving it. And thanks for the compliments, she's a mess! Y'all have no idea how TIRED I am. geez…
