Homecoming Hair!- Curl to Curl

steppinOUT writes:

Hello Curlies!

College Football Season has begun and for most of us HBCU alums, Homecoming is everything! It’s when you go back to “the YARD” in your finest outfit and of course, the HOTTEST HAIR. So college curlies and natural alums:

What are your Homecoming Hair plans?

  • Anonymous says:

Homecoming is this weekend at Grambling State University. I currently have mini twist. For the the first time I had them braided at the root and finished with a twist. I plan to rock the twist for Thursday & Friday, for Saturday and later that night I will rock a twist out. I am so excited!!! Now the outfits, I am still shopping because the temp will be a high of 60 and a low of 30…

  • J-Boogie says:

I'll be celebrating with my fellow alums at Fayetteville State University…Attitude Check!
    Bronco Pride!

I'll be doing a twist out for the game and hanging on the yard but it will be an afro puff phony pony for the parties. I don't want hair shrinkage on the dance floor!

  • Monique says:

I'll be celebrating my 1 month big chop next week and although I've been loving my cute wash n' gos. I think I'm gonna mix it up by straightening my twa and going for a pixie cut look. Too excited for homecoming!!!

  • Anonymous says:

SC State Bulldog!! Homecoming is October 23 and that's three weeks after my big chop. I'll be rocking a wash and go. Can't wait!!

  • georgiasunflower says:

Spelhouse homecoming!! So excited to see my Spelman sisters and Morehouse brothers! I think I'm going to do a braidout. Oh so fly =)

  • Channing says:

    Howard U here!!

I was debating b/c I've been doing a lot of protective styles lately [trying to combat my hand in hair syndrome] but special events always require BIG hair [as i'm sure you ladies know] so i'm thinkin about a curly sew-in. I came across some that matchs my texture perfectly and that way I can have my big hair while keeping up w/my protective stlying goal….we'll see.

  • naturallyk says:

I can't wait for Spelhouse homecoming! I am trying to find a really nice cornrow style. I just had one done into a hawk and LOVED it (see pics in my fotki) but I want to do something new. If I can't figure out something with my stylist I will do the same.

  • iculukin says:

DSU I thought you knew it!!! I'm ready for home coming can wait to see my fellow hornets!! I have no idea what to do with my hair and the weather has been acting funny it was like 90° yesterday sheesh!!!

  • Tina says:

I am an alum of Lane College and I have no idea how I should wear my hair; no one has actually seen my natural hair, so I am excited for the reaction. My sorors will have long silky hair and I will be the natural one, when I was once just like them…Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

  • Anonymous says:

SC State Bulldog Alum. Homecoming isn't unitl Oct. 23rd, so depending on the weather, I will either wear a wash and go or a big ol'puff. lol

  • Anonymous says:

My college homecoming is in a week and this will be the first time in the three years that I have been natural that I will NOT be pressing my hair! I am deciding if I will do a flat twist out, two strand twist out or what:) But it will be natural!

  • Anonymous says:

HOWARD U. ALUM!!….good question, I haven't decided yet. Depending on the weather I may do a wash n go, braidout or rollerset.

    GO BISON :-)

  • CAU Diva says:

I will miss homecoming this year, but I am a CAU graduate so I love the picture. GO PANTHERS!!!

  • JustMeLima says:

    @lilblackfan … hey!!! =)
silk elements … i will try that out. thanks!

  • Anonymous says:

I am so happy about this post. I have no idea what to do with my hair for Morgan State's Homecoming. I was considering a rod set but the only person I know that can do it just the way I like it, has sworn off rods. *sigh* decisions decisons

  • Queenofthe4s says:

For the first time in 9 years I won't be attending Homecoming at the University of Tennesse, Knoxville :(

But if I WAS…I would definitely be rockin a flat-twistout!

  • Anonymous says:

I can't wait to go to spelhouse homecoming I plan to wear my hair big watever style it is the bigger the better

  • Brittany says:

I still have no idea! This will be my first time sporting my natural hair to HC (senegalese twists and relaxed in the past) and I can't wait to experiment with different styles! I'll be @ NC Central University, where "the Eagle is no common, ordinary barnyard fowl!!!"

  • CurvyCurl says:

I'm not sure what style I want to rock, but I still have to weeks to decide before i'm back on the yard of Southern University and A&M College-bATON rOUGE GO JAGS!!!!

  • Meredith James says:

I can't wait to get down to FAMU for the greatest HC around! I'm flying on a red eye from Cali to Florida to make sure I don't miss the festivites… not sure if I will be rocking a twist out, rod set or weave… natural hair gives me too many options some times

  • lilblackfan says:

@ashley @erika definitely silk elements. my bad.

  • lilblackfan says:

    @Ashley hey spelman sister!!

silk essentials. in the green bottle. my sister swears by it, and so does kurly.bella over at kisforkinky.

  • Brittani says:

AGGIE PRIDE!!!! I will probably wear my usual wash-and-go…since im still in my twa phase. GOTTA LOVE HBCUs Homecomings!!!! Gboro is going to be booming that weekend!!

  • Santorini says:

Cant make it to CAU homecoming, something always comes up but definitely a twist out!! So happy to see the pic of CAU!!! PANTHERS!!!!

  • Anonymous says:

I had to leave a comment on the Homecoming Hair discussion. It's great to see all the HBCU love, so let me continue by bringing greetings from Fayetteville State University in NC. I have missed the last few Homecomings (life happens), but I will be there this year with my fly braid out! Attitude Check..BRONCO PRIDE!

  • JAS says:

Greetings to all my Broncos- Fayetteville State University to be exact! And a Skee-wee to all of my sorors!!! It will be a toss up between a twist out or wash & go, who knows. Unfortunately that week I will not have the opportunity to luxuriate on my hair, but I will make it work. If it is still HOT here in NC, a wash & go definitely! So enjoying this HBCU love!

  • Unknown says:

The HBCU love is so great! This will be the first homecoming that my best friend and I attend natural. It will be a wash n go but my hair usually looks its bust 2nd and 3rd day hair. Behold the Green and Gold-Norfolk State University all day NSU class of '99! To all of the Aggies since I live in WS I will be checking you all out b/c it is the greatest homecoming on earth! To all of the Rams we have conflicting weekends but maybe next year.

  • Loc Fancy says:

@LaKIsha, I'm a Johnson C. Smith Golden Bull!!!!!! What year did you attend Smith?

Everyone, I'm planning to take these kinky twists out, go bold and get some color, and wear my fro as big as it can get!!! (at least that's the plan right now)

  • JustMeLima says:

    @garland and s7arete

PERFECT =) thats actually what i bought today at the suggestion of a friend. havent straightened in a few months and i need a trim badly so i think ill do a test run this weekend.

@amanda … YAY for SpelHouse homecoming. wait til u see how excited u are next year once uve graduated! Ive been planning outfits for months it seems ha!!

  • Anonymous says:

    Tuskegee Alumna checking In!!!
I was JUST thinking about this today! I'm thinking a flat twistout for the first half and a wash and go/puff for the rest. I've been trying different styles for the last couple of weeks, as I have been wearing a wash and go for the last 3 years, lol!! What better time than homecoming to do something different?!! (unless of course it comes out a hot mess, lol)

  • Anonymous says:

I see all these A&T supporters so I have to say go WINSTON SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY LOL!!!
I will prob be rocking braids on one side with a rod set…I'll be under the dryer FOREVER sigh:(

  • Anonymous says:

Has a proud Alabama A&M alumni GO BULLDOGS, This will be my first homecoming as a natural! For the game it will be a twist out and that night will have do a frohawk. Can't wait to see you again…

  • Anonymous says:

My schools homecoming is next week (Alabama A&M University) and I am planning on wearing my hair as big as I can get it, and I'll acheive that with a wash and go!! I am sooo excited because this is my last homecoming as an undergraduate and I'm planning on have the MOST fun! This summer my plan was to get my hair blown out for homecoming but I decided that I love my curly hair, so why not wear it the way I like seeing it.

  • Jamila Reddy says:

Not an an HBCU, but I'm definitely planning on rocking a curly fro (I did a Twist-N-Curl last night) until it gets cold…then its twists, wraps and knit hats until Spring!

    Yay for College Curlies! :)

  • EarnieceY says:

I was thinking the same question about a week ago. Last year I wore a twist out afro and loved it. So this year since I BC'd after last year's homecoming I really want to wear my 100% natural hair either in a sophisticated updo or a super fly afro. I haven't made up my mind but either way the SWAC better be ready for the crunkest homecoming ever….UAPB Homecoming!! Go Lions Go!!

  • Anonymous says:

Loving all the Aggie Pride… unfortunately I want be making it to THE GREATEST HOMECOMING ON EARTH this year but the rest of my natural sisters show them that you can still look your best w/o the CREAMY CRACK!!!

  • Sabrina says:

Oh everyone Naptural85 on Youtube has a new video version, the twists almost looks like a 3strand version it came out gorgeous.

  • Erika says:

In reference to Ashley 1:45pm Sept 21. I think the one at Sallys it's called Silk Elements Heat Protectant Spray its a pinkish bottle that's suppose to be a good brand to use as well.

  • Renegade Behavior says:

SCSU Alumni in the house!!! Since I recently celebrated my 3 year naturalversary I'll be rockin my B.A.F all the way out….two strand twist out pulled completely apart so everyone can get the full effect! And if it rains like it did a couple years ago….a Huuuuuge Puff : )

  • Adrienne says:

I am a proud alumnus of Grambling State University! I am taking down my Kinky Twist and I will have a BIG Fluffy twist out in my black and gold!

  • Anonymous says:

I am a PROUD Alum of Tuskegee University!!!!! We are SERIOUS about our homecoming… SERIOUS!!! LOL!!!

So, funny that Nikki asked this question – because I have been pondering what to do with my hair for our November homecoming… especially since the last time my classmates saw me, my hair was relxed and past my shoulders. Given this, I thought about straightening my hair for the festivities. However, I have decided to sport my signature curly 'fro…. it truly embodies who I am now, and I want to show off my unique tresses that are MINE and MINE ALONE!!! I am sure I will get some crazy looks (the deep south/Alabama can be a bit conservative) – but I will rock it strong and proud anyway!!!!! :)

  • Amanda says:

I am at senior at Spelman (Spelhouse Homecoming!!!!), I will prob straighten it given I have not done so in months and currently transitioning.

  • Anonymous says:

I am a proud alumnus of South Carolina State University (go Bulldogs!!!) I am thinking of doing a gentle blow-out, then braid out. I may get lazy and just do the braid-out though :)
See you ladies on The Yard! I think we play Hampton for Homecoming!

  • LaKisha says:

Three strand twist here..NC A&T and Johnson C Smith University here I come..

  • Anonymous says:

i say i'm going to homecoming every year but something always comes up. Hopefully this year i'll be there rocking a twist out.

PVAMU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ooo i miss college…freshmen year was the best.

  • mood_indigo says:

That's my school in the pic!!! Yea CAU :-)!!! I'll be at Homecoming next weekend and will either be rocking a twistout using Kinky Curly or just a wash and go.

  • Anonymous says:

@ Ashley, I definitely love Fantasia IC's heat protectant as well.

  • Unknown says:

    Greatest Homecoming on Earth……

…North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University!!!

  • shea_nicole says:

@ ashley try fantasia ic's heat protectant I used it relaxed and now with my hair natural it always gives great results there is a product review of it on the blog her best hair by tia.

  • Alesia-Mason says:

Since I go to UNC-Greensboro & our homecoming is a soccer game, I'll be at NC A&T! I'll either wear twists or a puff since partying= bad hair day.

  • JustMeLima says:

Spelman College Alum! Way too excited! this is my first year back =) ('10 grad) … ive actually been looking for a heat protectant bc i kinda want to wear it straight (DONT JUDGE ME DONT JUDGE ME) … otherwise, i'll be going with my usual braid out ::sigh:: lol

ps. any heat protectant suggestions … finding one has been a long hard road!

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

My cousin in Gboro invited me up to NC A&T's homecoming… I haven't decided if I want to go. Lawd knows I want to party :) I think I'd feel guilty leaving the baby this soon though.

  • Anonymous says:

I'll be headed to homecoming next week for Clark Atlanta University and plan to rock a braid out using my eco-custard to get great definition.

  • Lori Mc says:

In a great big twist-out!! Always feel fly when I have one and it is so versatile- pulled up, pulled back or flying free. So, no matter what homecoming event I'm headed to, it will suit all occasions.

  • Anonymous says:

Well I am an alum of Delaware State University. GO HORNETS!!!! I will probably wear a braided style with some twists pinned up. The weather is changing so I have to go back to my protective styles. As for the outfit, I may wear some of my chic Delta paraphernalia. Are you greek?

  • karynrose says:

wash-n- go!i like to look effortless

  • Kayla says:

I've been thinking about this already, glad I'm not the only one. Since I'm transitioning its a toss up between a braid out and a bantu knot out.
