Anne- Naturally Glam Hair Idol

Meet Anne… she says, ‘going natural has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time!’

Anne- Naturally Glam Hair Idol
CN: How long have you been natural?
I big chopped on 9/28/10. I woke up that morning and told my husband, ‘this is the day’. I went to the barbershop and minutes later my long hair was gone. Even though I’ve always had long hair, until the big chop, I had never seen my natural hair. Looking back, my mom started relaxing my hair really early, at 7 yrs old. Going natural has allowed me to focus on things other than my hair and appreciate my true beauty.

What is your current regimen?
Right now, my regimen is pretty simple. I wash and condition my hair every other day or sometime once a day because I workout a lot. I like rocking the deep waves so I usually apply a small amount of Shea Butter and Eco style gel (olive oil), brush my hair forward then tie a doo rag on for a few minutes. Then I’m ready to go. Right now length is not important to me. For once in my life I don’t have to worry about my hair blowing in the wind or my husband messing up my style by touching my hair lol. I will definitely rock this short style for a while.

How do you protect your hair at night?
To keep my waves I wear a doo rag.

What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?
Embrace the new look. Wear your new look with confidence and don’t allow others to make you feel insecure. If you’re rocking the short cut like me, consider keeping a fresh line up (but keep it looking natural/feminine as possible), wear earrings, and wear makeup to help enhance your features.

What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?

I love how being natural makes me feel. I wake up every morning feeling beautiful and unique. The freedom of it allows me to stay active without worrying so much.

Anything else?
I love this site…Shout out to all my natural girls!

Are any of you rocking short ‘dos and planning to keep it that way for a while?

Thanks for all the love 🙂

Almost 3 months in and I still love my cut. Its actually growing in really fast, if it wasn't for the cold weather in Boston i would cut it again.

    Happy Holidays Everyone 🙂

Im 22 and my story is synonomos to hers. I cut mine 9/3/10 (which happens to equal 22 haha!). I wake up every morning and stare at ME–and only me. I dont wake up and see a magazine stereo type or a black beautiful woman ONLY because i have straitened hair. I see me, raw and unedited (of course with the help a brush too, lol). I am starting to feel centered with myself. I have been natural for 6+ years now, but rarely wore my hair natural bc i didnt know how to be creative with it. When i did wear it naturally in a curly-fro, it was stressful bc I didnt realize all i could do with it (and couldnt maintain that fresh wash look). Its cut short now for very good reasons and i love it! When i do grow it back out one day, I definately will look to naturallycurly.com first for creative ideas–Long curly hair. For now the short styles ive seen are really getting me excited to try! Ive told every single one of my natural friends about this site, and they dig it too! ITs guidance for all of us brave ladies who want to be them–not society. 🙂

Yeah now that is how you rock a TWA, you go girl. Love the outfits that you have on as well, but seriously where did you get that leopard dress from? Congratulations on doing the BC and becoming natural.

nice pics. I have had my TWA for almost a year now.

I've definitely thought about cutting my hair back to a TWA. I don't think I appreciated the pros of the short do when I had it. We'll see. ~KF519

She looks really happy! As much as i LOVE my TWA right now, I don't think I'll cut it again. I love it short but I'm going for length.

I'm 2 weeks from my one year anniversary and my hair is still short so I feel as it's short by default not because I keep it that way 🙂 lol Since my hair curls so much you can't really see the length (5 1/2") but I love it anyway. You are beautiful and rock your new 'do' with class 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

    Anne,
You are absolutely beautiful. The short cut looks chic on you.

  • DvaAuNaturel says:

Gorgeous hair. Totally agree about the confidence…you cannot let others define how you look or feel. I cut on 9/3/10 right before labor day in order to color my hair after several henna/indigo treatments. I love my short cut and others compliment me too but I plan to grow mine out. Can't wait to rock twists, twist outs, and buns especially with the color.

yay another PBC [Permanent Big Chop ]..like me. I kinda feel like part of a small group. I feel the same way. The freedom is empowering. Kudos!

welcome to the site. You are stunning. I like your statement about not letting others make you feel insecure.Great insight. We as women of color can not let others make us feel less than we are! When we feel good with ourselves, I find others are attracted to us…not hook up attracted, but people feel your energy and confidence and they want to be around you. Good luck with the transition. I am 2 years in feb. Time flies
