On the Couch with Goapele!

Hola Chicas,

I’ll be On the Couch with R&B singer-songwriter Goapele in the coming days! Have you seen this woman’s hair?! Fierce. Her intricate braids are truly a work of art.

Check out Essence.com’s clip of Goapele getting her hair braided!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Goapele and her music. I encountered her music when I was in college and as cliche as it might sound it was like a breath of fresh air. I loved it! If given the opportunity I would ask her 1 of 2 questions:

    1. Do you ever think you will loc your hair again?
    2. Do you have any friends or family members that have relaxed hair that you've tried to bring over to the natural side?

Please get her stylist info. I live in Oakland and I know I have seen this woman somewhere. Now I must truly become her stalker.

  • OloriOba says:

Yay!! I love Goapele!! She seems so humble and true to herself. I love her hair now and how she gets it braided but I would like to know why she changed from locs and which way she prefers her hair. Her hair now reminds me of how we used to get our hair braided and threaded in Nigeria. Go 'head Goapele and thank you Nikki!

What's her diet, skin care, hair care routine? Why did she cut her locs?

  • kimmie0810 says:

**and by otherness I mean some next level emotional-type stuff!

  • kimmie0810 says:

Yay! She is UBER adorable!! And "Closer" is some otherness that I can't even stand to listen to sometimes!!!

I'd kill for my hair to be that thick! I'd give up curl pattern for thickness any day of the week!!!

I'd also like to know about the woman braiding her hair & her skincare regimen. New music coming out. Tours.

If I could see Goapele & Ledisi on the same stage I think I'd faint dead away!

Closer is my "get my mind right" song. It's like a meditation. Go on Goapale, talented and beautiful.

  • DaUnik says:

    that was wonderful wow

  • Jeannette says:

What are her staple products? Does she give her hair a break in between styles? How long has she been natural? How has she been received in the media with being all Natural? Does she read forums like CurlyNikki or ever check to see how others naturals are styling their hair on YouTube?

This is what I''m talking about regarding the versatility of African American Women's hair!!! LOVE IT!! Looking forward to reading this interview. Her hair is gorgeous 🙂

who does her hair? just beautiful.

  • Anonymous says:

    Awesome!

  • Anonymous says:

How does she get the fierce tiny, micro corn rows and How long does it take?

    Awesome, Nikki!

  • Anonymous says:

Questions for her: How long does she keep her cornrows in and how does she maintain them? What products does she use? And does it really take 9 hours to create some of her styles?I read that in the Essence Hot Hair issue. Thanks

    Sue

Looking forward to this one, her braids are lovely. I wonder where does one get the thread used to wrap hair in the video? It's common in Africa and I think it's different from any thread used to sew fabric.

  • Anonymous says:

Is there a difference in the hair products you use now versus the ones you used when you had locs?

  • Maggi says:

    Awesome!!! I can't wait.
