CN: How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 3 years now! And I am still growing strong! (-:
CN: Were you a long term or short term transitioner, and why?
I was a long-term transitioner because I never had the courage to do the “big chop”. I just let my texture grow out slowly, by trimming my hair about 3 to 4 inches every month. To keep track of my new growth, I would dye a small section of my roots at the very top of my head an auburn color. I would be so excited at the littlest growth!
CN: What is your current regimen?
After trying hundreds of hair gels and creams, my curls finally met their soul mate! SHEA MOISTURE. I use all of their products, even their skin care. To keep my curls maintained throughout the week, I mix in Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel into the curl cream. I wash every other week with the Shea Moisture Shampoo and co- wash my hair once a week.
CN: How do you maintain Length? Moisture?
My curls stay moist and retain length with consistent use of Shea Moisture’s Deep Treatment Masque. And I NEVER towel dry my hair because it soaks out all of the moisture, so I use a cotton t-shirt instead. To show length, I let my hair air dry and shrink first. Then I stretch out my curls from the roots and blow dry it until I get my desired length. Another method I use is twisting my hair and leaving them in for about two weeks, and when I wash my hair, my curls are stretched out to my shoulders. To keep my curls a little bit more separated during my diffusing, I shake my hair to loosen up the kinks.
CN: Night time routine?
Before I go to bed, I turn my head into the famous Pineapple! It always keeps my curls from getting smashed and since I have such a busy daily schedule, I don’t have to worry about redoing my hair.
CN: What would you tell a new natural, or transitioning diva?
Go for it! Whether you want to do the big chop or small snips here and there. Patience is the key thing when growing your natural curls, because the outcome is MARVELOUS and your curls will thank you for it!
CN: What’s the best thing about being naturally glamorous?
Being natural has really changed my life! I have more confidence in my appearance and it’s ME. I feel free and very hip! NO more of those relaxers or heat damaging methods. My hair loves me for that! I am also quite the show stopper! Everywhere I go there is always someone noticing my curls and saying how much they missed their natural kinks. When they tell me that they wish they had their curls back I always say “Go for it girl!”
CN: Anything else you want to add?
I am very happy I stumbled upon your site! It has really been an inspiration to me in my natural hair journey. Yours and many others’ curls inspire my curls to continue to flow (‘:

Amazing and inspiring hair! I'm dying for that hair color!
Um, Curly Nikki, could you please get a hold of Katelyn and have her answer everybody's questions about the color? I want to know too and keep checking back for answers but there's never anything. She can't just be showcasing lovely beautiful color and not saying how she got it. It's just not fair.
Your hair is just fierce! What kind of color did you use? (I'm looking for something similar)
My goodness! Her hair is fabulous! I love it.

You and your hair are beutiful and so is the little one. I simply love the color combo.
That hair is fantastic! Loving it.
@AnnieL.: A great place for cheap glasses of a similar style is www.warbyparker.com. And their price is unbeatable, anything for $95 flat. Pshawww!…For regular glasses wearers, you know that's a steal.
I got the "Roosevelts", and rock them regularly!
…Just had to make mention…
I use Shea Moisture but am not in love with it. I will try to mix it with the gel though and see how that works. You have gorgeous hair!!
aka Jada07
Outstanding!
Very cool hair! 🙂
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!!! I can't wait to rock a fro like that. Keep up the good work. Your hair color is fabulos on you!!
Yes you definitely have some "Gorgeous" hair, it's so full and thick. The color is so pretty against your skin and I love the chunky fro and how it frames your face. The little baby is just adorable like her mother. Is the color a rinse or semi-permanent? either way that is one gorgeous head of hair that you have. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your story and the wonderful pictures.
beautiful lady and hair. hopefully you will be discovered and we'll see you on the big screen/commercial as a natural hair model
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!
Ugh I love your hair! And the color is amazing! (
(Oh and that baby is "kidnap worthy" – a term I use when I steal friend/family kids for a few hours to a day or 2… Don't judge me! They are always returned happy, clean, well groomed, full, and loved! )
And to the hair porn, OMG I thought I was the only one who said that. My husbnad looked at me when I was showing him my Hair Porn folder on my computer! There are other great minds like mine. OMG curly girls rock!
Your hair looks so fab!

You hair is awesome. Coloring a section of you hair to track growth is a great idea. I'm going to try it after I take down these kinky twists.
