I really only use a specific product for conditioning.
(1) Favorite shampoo: baking soda rinse followed by apple cider vinegar rinse (gets my hair extremely clean)
(2) Favorite conditioner: Garnier Fructis Moisture Works, Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition and garnier fructis triple nutrition 3 minute deep conditioner
(3) Favorite styler: Whipped shea butter, homemade moisturizing spritz, and every now and then Eco Styler olive oil.
I love the Alikay line… I use the Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner. I lover her Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner. I use the Hair Growth oil which is a mix of many essential oils. I just purchased the Hair her Wake me up daily curl refresher….so we will see how it goes. Oh and the Shea yogurt moisturizer makes for an awesome twist out.
1. Shampoo – Curls Curlicious Cleansing Cream
2. Conditioner – Kinky Curly Knot Today / Elucence
3. Styler – Fantasia IC Gel (blue) / Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue / Kinky Curly Curling Custard
I've been rocking a TWA for awhile now, but since I had brain surgery for multiple aneurysms (Dec. 08) and my head was cut in half with a saw (I know…gnarly, huh?) I have two different textures in my head. The top half is 3c whereas the back of my head is 4a/b. Currently, I use a moisturizer spritz: water, grapeseed oil, orange water, and vegetable glycerin. After that I use a combo mix of KC Knot Today and Giovanni Leave In shaken together…But I'm still searching though.
It's going to be a trial and error thang for a minute until you find what really works for you. Just stay encouraged and continue to rock the naps proudly.
Do your thang, Missy!!
BTW…God is sho 'nuff good.
ROTFL! I love me some Kim Coles! 😀
Hi Ms. Kim:
I would suggest:
1. Shampoo – Kinky curly Come Clean
2. Conditioner – Shea Moisture Masque (found in target) mixed with extra virgin olive oil
3. Detangler: Kinky curly Knot today mixed with coconut oil
3. Styler: Kinky curly custard
4. Daily moisturizing spray (twice a day): 2oz of aloe vera juice/2oz of glycerin/4oz of distilled water/a little bit of Giovanni Direct leave in
Hope it helps! I put all of the above in that order on my wash days…besides that I just use daily moisturizing spray. This combination has worked wonders for my hair! Good luck 🙂
All of these products have my head spinning!
1.) Whatever I have on hand.
2.) Giovanni Smooth as Silk
3.) EcoStyler Gel mixed with EVOO (1:2 ratio)
Going off what I saw that you have. Kinky Curly for the wash and gos. Afroveda is excellent for twists. Shea Moisture shampoo is good and the smoothie for daily moisturizing. I didn't like the Deva products on my hair n never tried Miss Jessie's. Please report back.
Girl you got a lotta products!!!!
Start with your Kinky Curly Products, it's real simple for a wash and go, just shampoo, throw on that Knot-Today (it's fabulous) and slide on the Curling Custard, you'll be good to go!!!
Oh how i love Kim lol

2. I use Kimmaytube's leave-in conditioner mix w/Kinky Curly Knot Today, Aloe Vera Juice, Grapeseed oil, and Castor oil – LOVE THIS and So DO MY CURLS!

Of course I have more products than the ones listed. However, I decided to make it simple and name my favorites out of each.
Hope this helps:-)
Some of my staples are:
shampoo: Kinky-Curly Come Clean or Darcy's Botanicals Daily Cleansing Conditioner Cream
conditioner: Darcy's Botanicals Daily Leave-in Conditioner (choose from many wonderful scents!) or Kinky-Curly Knot Today
styler: Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Soft Gel or Kinky-Curly Curling Custard
This list could be much longer as I am a huge product junkie. However, this is what works for my curly 4A mane at the moment. BTW, Darcy's Botanicals and Qhemet Biologics are both superb in my book. Their products are some of the best around. Check them out!
Please help, Ms. Kim. I tried registering or the grow out challenge a few times over the past week and still have not received the validation email.

3. Styler – Curls Whipped Cream
P.S. I use Dr.Bronner's Castile Soap to wash my hair. The peppermint kind!
You guys sure know how to enable a girl! I think you have enough products for now so I think you just need to add some oils such as coconut, jojoba, hempseed and castor oil to your "arsenal". Get some shea butter too! If the products you have don't live up to the "hype", you can always jazz them up with the oils or become a kitchen chemist and make your own! Good luck! Your hair looks great!
LMAO! Oh Lord Ms.Kim….LOL! Keep it simple. Less is more. That way, if something is making your hair act a fool, you'll know exactly what product it is. With that said, I LOVE Oyin Juices and Berries. It smells like KoolAid! Cantu Leave-In Shea Conditioner and Just for Me 2-in-1 detangler are also apart of my arsenal. Happy growing and btw, you look FABULOUS! 😉
i love kim coles…i want to go to lunch with her lol

I don't have an all time fav shampoo or styler BUT Suave Almond and Shea Conditioner is the truth! It's cheap and very moisturizing…I use it for everything…cowashing, detangling and as a leave-in.My hair stays soft all week! Its a staple hands down. I haven't tried the newer version in stores…I'm still using the green bottle. The new version has a different ingredients list so I'm not sure how that will work out lol
I might not be much help with the PJism. Since cutting my locs, when I used less than five products, I now have been experimenting with different things. Here are the things I consistently use:
Shampoo – Giovanni TTTT or 50:50 (I'm about to purchase the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter from Target. Used a friend's, and it was amazing. I am also looking into Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars.)
Conditioner – Too many, but you can never have too many conditioners. Here are my favs, starting with the cheapest:
–Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut
–Alberto VO5 Passion Fruit Smoothie or Free Me Freesia
–Yes to Cucumbers Daily Makeover
–Giovanni TTTT Condish (tried a sample size and loved it. Going to buy the big bottle from TJ Maxx)
–Giovanni Direct Leave-In
–Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp (Leave In)
Styler – I'm a conditioner only type of styling girl myself, using OHHH to style. Plus, I'm a wash and type curly. Hate styling my hair. But when I do, for great hold, try the Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding. I just might give you mine.
Sealant – Oyin Handmade (Can you tell I love them?) Burnt Sugar Pomade, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil
Deep Treatment – Still on the prowl.
Daily Moisturizer – OH Greg Juice, but I'm about to make my own aloe vera moisturizing spritz.

I use cocount oil to seal, on my scalp and I tap my ends with it when I wear my hair out, but I don't use too many other oils unless their mixed with water. I don't think my hair likes straight oil, but can you tell it loves Darcy's Botanicals?
Girl! I thought that I was bad. What's a shame is that I've used a majority of what you have in your stash! Yes, I am a recovering product junkie! I don't want to feed your habit, but here are my favorites

My first suggestions: invest in oils!!
My fav lines as of today: Kinky-curly, CURLS, KeraCare Naturals, Herbal Essences, and Giovanni.
Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue is cool too if you mix it with aloe vera gel. I'm going to try the curly pudding again mixed with AVG to see the result!
Good Luck Kim!
WOW – and I thought I was a PJ! As I matter of fact, I just ordered a TON of stuff from CurlMart yesterday, but got completely screwed out of a discount because I didn't use the correct discount code, but I'm still eyeing other products I want to try/re-stock on. Anyway, I need to remind myself that I only have ONE head of hair and, unless I'm going to start washing my hair more than once a week, I need to take the spending down a notch. And I need start utilizing the product swap forum!
Moisture Moisture Moisture is key with the color in your hair. Research products that work well on colored textured hair. Products that will protect your tresses, your color AND keep it moisturized. Stay away from things that may dry you out. You may need professional products because of the color. SOMETIMES home made whips, conditioners and organic shampoos are not the colored natural chica's friend! Research what you've purchased and have fun! Don't panic LOL! By the way you look amazing your hair is so pretty!
shampoo: don't really have one
conditioner: oyin honey hemp conditioner. love, love, love this stuff! my hair basically detangles itself once applied
styler: oyin shine & define serums. i get my best twist-outs using this and sealing with oyin's burnt sugar pomade, castor oil, or coconut oil.
I'm crackin up! She is so funny. I really can't help, I'm still tryin to figure out what to use.
I'm still loving my Cantu and recently Bumble and Bumble's Curl Conscious! Doing a combo and my hair seems to be loving it!!
I absolutely LOVE Kim Cole's. Her energy is awesome.
Right now my all time favorite line is Shea Moisture. Recently my hair is loving Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, Aussie Moist Conditioner, Giovanni 50/50 Calm Conditioner and Grape Seed oil. Fructis Sleek and Shine leave-in is awesome for a spritzer mix with water and glycerin. I am qaiting for my Qhemet Biologics in the mail.
MyHoney Child Olive You is a nice light deep conditioner.
For oils almond, jojoba, EVOO and EVOC are the best bar none. Especially for sealants.
Terressentials organic Hair Wash(Lavender Garden),
DT= Homemade oil mix (Olive, Castor, Vitamin E, Grapeseed, Almond & Jojoba Oils)
STYLER= Unrefined Shea Butter Mix,
Moisturizer= Water/Aloe Vera juice mix.
I'm trying very hard to go natural with my products so I am trying out this line up and thus far, it is working rather well.
Allnatural1 (Michelle in TX)
Over the past 10 months, I have tried a lot pf products. But, I love the Curls line
Coconut sublime and curl ecstasy conditioners
Quenched curl leave in
and Curl gel-les'c or Eco styler olive oil gels
I also use Shea butter, Castor oil and Jojoba oil
(1) Shampoo- Dr. Bronner's Almond Castile soap diluted. I put a TBS into a bottle of water and have shampoo for months!
(2) Conditioner- V05 Smoothies in Strawberry or Blackberry in the summer and Suave Naturals Almond & Shea butter in winter
(3) Styler- Yes to Cucumbers conditioner (regular or leave-in) or Aussie Moist and castor oil or shea butter to seal.
Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition
Biotera Curl Creme
Shampoo: Either Yes to Cucumbers orAubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing Shampoo
Conditioner: I tend to make my own out of a cheap conditioner like Sauve or the 360 Whole Foods brand mixed with oils, honey, BLENDED banana, etc.
Styler: I love Darcy's Botanicals, Oyin brands. I use Kiss My Face Upper Management and Aubrey Organic B5 Gel.
There is also coconut, jojoba, castor, olive, hemp seed (to start) oils and many butters to play around with.
I've learned over the years that my hair HATES glycerin, mineral oils, silicons to start. You will learn what works for you over the years.
I don't want to encourage you to buy more things so I won't list any products. I would say use every line of products you have one at a time. By the end of it all, you should be able to narrow down what you like and don't like. And just use those!!!
For Shampoo I use a Black Soap Shampoo, that I purchased from wwww.healingherbsbyrene.com
Conditioner I like CD Tui Hair Smoothie, it makes you hair really soft and manageable.
Also to style and moistureize my hair I use Herbal Hair Mist Spray and Irie Herbal Hair Gel by www.healingherbsbyrene.com
I am also trying Taliah Waajid's African Healing Oil to help with dryness and the Crinkles & Curls to help with styling.
Try some cheap all natural products like castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, shea buttter, and vegetable glycerin. These things aren't expensive and they tend to work well. Vegetable glycerin and water is a GREAT moisturizer. I currently mix some of my Giovanni direct leave-in into the mix. You WILL LEARN by trial and error, but you don't have to spend a lot of money.
Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner Shea Moisture Conditioner
Leave in conditioner:
Mixed Chicks leave in Conditioner and Olive Oil, jojoba oil, Aloe Vera gel
Oh my goodness! Let us know how the Alikay naturals works for you! I'm dying to try her products!
Trader Joe's Nourish Spa shampoo
Trader Joe's Nourish Spa conditioner
Unrefined shea butter
Olive oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil
and of course, good old water :]
Coconut oil (or ingredients with it) has totally changed my hair for the better.
Shampoo – Curls Cleansing Cream
LeaveIn- Curls Milkshake
DeepTx- Macadamia Nut oil Deep repair masque (sometimes I add argan and coconut oils)
Styler- Curls Gelese or teeny bit of clear Ecostyler
I love Adara brand coconut oil and Monoi Tahiti oils to use on hair and body!
My number one shampoo has got to be the Cantu Shea Butter. My number one conditioner has got to be the Kinky Curly Knot Today conditioner. My number one styler is Afroveda's Shea Amla hair butter. Also, I would caution you to be careful about Henna. It is reported to loosen the curl pattern. I have never tried it myself, but that is the number one reason why I don't use it. I have just started using Ayurvedic treatements for growth and thickness(in powder form, Brahmi, Amla, Shikakai and Neem mixed with coconut oil and a deep conditioner), but its too soon to see a difference. I do know that after five applications that I haven't seen a loosening of my curl pattern. I will stop when I do. And I might try the oil forms of these powders as well.
I love your hair, your curls, your color and advise you to really pay attention to your hair and what screws with it, and what does it justice. Good luck Kim 🙂
LMBO, you are hilarious. Seriously, I pride myself thus far in not having went off the deep end yet, not to say that it couldn’t happen at any given moment. My girlfriend is a serious product junkie, hopefully I can coax her out some of those products she hoarding.
The products I tried, loved and use:
Shea Moisture line at Target
Oyin Handmade Brunt Sugar Pomade
Joie Naturals Pomade
Giovanni’s Direct Leave In
Eco Styler w/Olive Oil is great, now that my hair is getting longer, I don’t care for it as much.
*I can’t live without my Glycerin, Coconut Oil, and Shea Butter
A product I can’t wait to get my hands on, Oyin’s Honey Hemp Conditioner!
Shampoo: KeraCare Hydrating Shampoo (sulfate free)
Condish: Herbal Essence Totally Twisted (this has taken the place of Hello Hydration)
Leave-in: Yes To Cucumbers Leave-in Condish (use it after washing, or on wet hair)
Deep Condish: Shea Moisture Reconstructive Condish (leave on about 45 minutes)
Styler: Eco Styler (with shea butter, castor, jojoba oils). Sometimes Hair Rules Kinky Cream for twisting.
Sealing: Castor & jojoba oil mix
That's about it! LOL More info than you asked for but these products do me right consistently! 😉
Sometime the big names are not always better (just a note)
Your friend has a good idea though..TRY them all. if it doesn't work you can probably sell/give them away!
Amla Treatment: for growth & manegebility
Kinky Curly Shampoo & Knot today: for occasional washes and daily conditioning
H20: Your best friend for moisture
Vatika Oil: for a dry scalp and softer hair
EVOO, Cocunut Oil, Jojoba, & Castor: moisturizing, hot oil, a lil shine etc.
Shea Butter: to seal the ends
Shampoo: Shea moisture curl and shine – leaves my hair soft and doesn't matte it up or tangle it
Condish: Giovanni 50/50
Leave in: Giovanni 50/50 and water, and I spritz my hair almost everyday with water
Seal: Raw Shea butter, sometimes a little drop of castor oil
Gel: homemade flax seed gel a la Naptural85
sometimes I pre-poo with honey, olive oil, and castor oil. I also use this mix as a deep conditioner, but I heat it up and leave it in for a lot longer.

2) HE Hello Hydration Conditioner
3) Tangle Teezer
Honorable Mention: Shea butter and coconut oil
Being all natural for two years, I have sworn by and sworn off quite a few products…big name products. But one thing has remained constant and that is CONDITIONER.
Currently, I am using;
1. Shampoo–yes, I said shampoo. Had sworn off but now I use a very little because of product build up. Castille Soap is a good one and Suave.
2. Conditioner–Suave Almond/Shea Butter is good amd Hello Hydration.
3. ECO styler gel with olive oil.
4. Grease…umm humm…yep. grease…for my twist outs. It's working for me.
Blessings to you! Enjoy the journey and never doubt you are looking fabulous!
And thank you for the representation in Hollywood.
HAHAHAH….she is so funny.
Lol, I'm just playing that is just what I use.
You basically need a…
*Protein if things are breaking.
Pick one of those products YOU HAVE for each.
BTW..the DevaCurl One Conditioner is one of my favs.
The entire line of KeraCare Natural Textures products. But for my co-wash condish, I use HEHH.
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Shampoo
Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque (condish)
Kinky Curly Knot Today (leave-in)
Kinky Curly Curling Custard (styler)
unrefined shea butter (sealant)
As of now, I use (Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Retention Shampoo) from target and I'm thinking about investing in the Giovanni 50/50 Shampoo. For conditioners I buy these cheap and they work pretty good( Hello Hydration- Herbal Essence & Almond and Shea Butter- Suave). For styler(s) I use once again (Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie) and (Taliah Waajid's Lock it Up. I have more but, it looks like you have enough! 🙂
if this is a ploy to get us to feed the dragon, then
CD Mimosa Hair Honey
Oyin Handmade Hair Dew
Oyin Handmade Juices & Berries
Suave Almond & Shea
HE Totally Twisted
whew! i'm sure i forgot some…
