I really only use a specific product for conditioning.
    (1) Favorite shampoo: baking soda rinse followed by apple cider vinegar rinse (gets my hair extremely clean)
    (2) Favorite conditioner: Garnier Fructis Moisture Works, Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition and garnier fructis triple nutrition 3 minute deep conditioner
    (3) Favorite styler: Whipped shea butter, homemade moisturizing spritz, and every now and then Eco Styler olive oil.

  • Unknown says:

I love the Alikay line… I use the Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner. I lover her Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner. I use the Hair Growth oil which is a mix of many essential oils. I just purchased the Hair her Wake me up daily curl refresher….so we will see how it goes. Oh and the Shea yogurt moisturizer makes for an awesome twist out.

    1. Shampoo – Curls Curlicious Cleansing Cream

    Chica,
I've been rocking a TWA for awhile now, but since I had brain surgery for multiple aneurysms (Dec. 08) and my head was cut in half with a saw (I know…gnarly, huh?) I have two different textures in my head. The top half is 3c whereas the back of my head is 4a/b. Currently, I use a moisturizer spritz: water, grapeseed oil, orange water, and vegetable glycerin. After that I use a combo mix of KC Knot Today and Giovanni Leave In shaken together…But I'm still searching though.
It's going to be a trial and error thang for a minute until you find what really works for you. Just stay encouraged and continue to rock the naps proudly.
    Do your thang, Missy!!
    BTW…God is sho 'nuff good.

    Hi Ms. Kim:

    I would suggest:
    1. Shampoo – Kinky curly Come Clean
    2. Conditioner – Shea Moisture Masque (found in target) mixed with extra virgin olive oil
    3. Detangler: Kinky curly Knot today mixed with coconut oil
    3. Styler: Kinky curly custard
    4. Daily moisturizing spray (twice a day): 2oz of aloe vera juice/2oz of glycerin/4oz of distilled water/a little bit of Giovanni Direct leave in

Hope it helps! I put all of the above in that order on my wash days…besides that I just use daily moisturizing spray. This combination has worked wonders for my hair! Good luck 🙂

    Some of my staples are:

shampoo: Kinky-Curly Come Clean or Darcy's Botanicals Daily Cleansing Conditioner Cream

conditioner: Darcy's Botanicals Daily Leave-in Conditioner (choose from many wonderful scents!) or Kinky-Curly Knot Today

styler: Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Soft Gel or Kinky-Curly Curling Custard

This list could be much longer as I am a huge product junkie. However, this is what works for my curly 4A mane at the moment. BTW, Darcy's Botanicals and Qhemet Biologics are both superb in my book. Their products are some of the best around. Check them out!

  • Anonymous says:

You guys sure know how to enable a girl! I think you have enough products for now so I think you just need to add some oils such as coconut, jojoba, hempseed and castor oil to your "arsenal". Get some shea butter too! If the products you have don't live up to the "hype", you can always jazz them up with the oils or become a kitchen chemist and make your own! Good luck! Your hair looks great!

  • Taneica says:

LMAO! Oh Lord Ms.Kim….LOL! Keep it simple. Less is more. That way, if something is making your hair act a fool, you'll know exactly what product it is. With that said, I LOVE Oyin Juices and Berries. It smells like KoolAid! Cantu Leave-In Shea Conditioner and Just for Me 2-in-1 detangler are also apart of my arsenal. Happy growing and btw, you look FABULOUS! 😉

  • Kenya says:

I don't have an all time fav shampoo or styler BUT Suave Almond and Shea Conditioner is the truth! It's cheap and very moisturizing…I use it for everything…cowashing, detangling and as a leave-in.My hair stays soft all week! Its a staple hands down. I haven't tried the newer version in stores…I'm still using the green bottle. The new version has a different ingredients list so I'm not sure how that will work out lol

  • AusetAbena says:

I might not be much help with the PJism. Since cutting my locs, when I used less than five products, I now have been experimenting with different things. Here are the things I consistently use:

Shampoo – Giovanni TTTT or 50:50 (I'm about to purchase the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter from Target. Used a friend's, and it was amazing. I am also looking into Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars.)

Conditioner – Too many, but you can never have too many conditioners. Here are my favs, starting with the cheapest:
    –Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut
–Alberto VO5 Passion Fruit Smoothie or Free Me Freesia
    –Yes to Cucumbers Daily Makeover
–Giovanni TTTT Condish (tried a sample size and loved it. Going to buy the big bottle from TJ Maxx)
    –Giovanni Direct Leave-In
–Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp (Leave In)

Styler – I'm a conditioner only type of styling girl myself, using OHHH to style. Plus, I'm a wash and type curly. Hate styling my hair. But when I do, for great hold, try the Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding. I just might give you mine.

Sealant – Oyin Handmade (Can you tell I love them?) Burnt Sugar Pomade, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil

Deep Treatment – Still on the prowl.

Daily Moisturizer – OH Greg Juice, but I'm about to make my own aloe vera moisturizing spritz.

I use cocount oil to seal, on my scalp and I tap my ends with it when I wear my hair out, but I don't use too many other oils unless their mixed with water. I don't think my hair likes straight oil, but can you tell it loves Darcy's Botanicals?

WOW – and I thought I was a PJ! As I matter of fact, I just ordered a TON of stuff from CurlMart yesterday, but got completely screwed out of a discount because I didn't use the correct discount code, but I'm still eyeing other products I want to try/re-stock on. Anyway, I need to remind myself that I only have ONE head of hair and, unless I'm going to start washing my hair more than once a week, I need to take the spending down a notch. And I need start utilizing the product swap forum!

    Hi Kim,

Moisture Moisture Moisture is key with the color in your hair. Research products that work well on colored textured hair. Products that will protect your tresses, your color AND keep it moisturized. Stay away from things that may dry you out. You may need professional products because of the color. SOMETIMES home made whips, conditioners and organic shampoos are not the colored natural chica's friend! Research what you've purchased and have fun! Don't panic LOL! By the way you look amazing your hair is so pretty!

I absolutely LOVE Kim Cole's. Her energy is awesome.

Right now my all time favorite line is Shea Moisture. Recently my hair is loving Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, Aussie Moist Conditioner, Giovanni 50/50 Calm Conditioner and Grape Seed oil. Fructis Sleek and Shine leave-in is awesome for a spritzer mix with water and glycerin. I am qaiting for my Qhemet Biologics in the mail.

MyHoney Child Olive You is a nice light deep conditioner.

For oils almond, jojoba, EVOO and EVOC are the best bar none. Especially for sealants.

Shampoo: Either Yes to Cucumbers orAubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing Shampoo

Conditioner: I tend to make my own out of a cheap conditioner like Sauve or the 360 Whole Foods brand mixed with oils, honey, BLENDED banana, etc.

Styler: I love Darcy's Botanicals, Oyin brands. I use Kiss My Face Upper Management and Aubrey Organic B5 Gel.

There is also coconut, jojoba, castor, olive, hemp seed (to start) oils and many butters to play around with.

I've learned over the years that my hair HATES glycerin, mineral oils, silicons to start. You will learn what works for you over the years.

  • Lisa says:

I don't want to encourage you to buy more things so I won't list any products. I would say use every line of products you have one at a time. By the end of it all, you should be able to narrow down what you like and don't like. And just use those!!!

  • Carla says:

For Shampoo I use a Black Soap Shampoo, that I purchased from wwww.healingherbsbyrene.com

Conditioner I like CD Tui Hair Smoothie, it makes you hair really soft and manageable.

Also to style and moistureize my hair I use Herbal Hair Mist Spray and Irie Herbal Hair Gel by www.healingherbsbyrene.com

I am also trying Taliah Waajid's African Healing Oil to help with dryness and the Crinkles & Curls to help with styling.

  • Natural-E says:

Try some cheap all natural products like castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, shea buttter, and vegetable glycerin. These things aren't expensive and they tend to work well. Vegetable glycerin and water is a GREAT moisturizer. I currently mix some of my Giovanni direct leave-in into the mix. You WILL LEARN by trial and error, but you don't have to spend a lot of money.

    Good luck!!

  • april says:

My number one shampoo has got to be the Cantu Shea Butter. My number one conditioner has got to be the Kinky Curly Knot Today conditioner. My number one styler is Afroveda's Shea Amla hair butter. Also, I would caution you to be careful about Henna. It is reported to loosen the curl pattern. I have never tried it myself, but that is the number one reason why I don't use it. I have just started using Ayurvedic treatements for growth and thickness(in powder form, Brahmi, Amla, Shikakai and Neem mixed with coconut oil and a deep conditioner), but its too soon to see a difference. I do know that after five applications that I haven't seen a loosening of my curl pattern. I will stop when I do. And I might try the oil forms of these powders as well.

I love your hair, your curls, your color and advise you to really pay attention to your hair and what screws with it, and what does it justice. Good luck Kim 🙂

    Currently, I am using;

    2. Conditioner–Suave Almond/Shea Butter is good amd Hello Hydration.

    3. ECO styler gel with olive oil.

    4. Grease…umm humm…yep. grease…for my twist outs. It's working for me.

Blessings to you! Enjoy the journey and never doubt you are looking fabulous!
