I just celebrated my 1 year naturalversary on January 25th! The first picture is from the day I did my big chop, and of course the second is from today, only one year later! I rarely wear my hair stretched, but it’s amazing to see the growth that I have, despite my shrinkage. Your site has been extremely helpful throughout this year.
My Current Regimen: In January, I let my beloved Wash-N-Go go for a month of twists and twistouts. So basically, I Washed, DCed and twisted it on Sundays, wore the twists until Wednesday, and wore the twistout until that next Sunday. But thankfully I’m back to my Wash-N-Go. Basically, I just wash or co-wash, put in some Kinky Curly Knot Today, Kinky Curly Curling Custard, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and let it be! My Wash-N-Go’s normally last anywhere from 3-5 days. I just listen to my hair, and when it’s ready to start over, I wash it again.
My Nightly routine: Well, last night I tried pineappling for the first time (I did a modified pineapple, with one on each side of my head since my hair is still short-ish) and I loved it! But ordinarily I just sleep as-is with a bonnet and that works, too.
Current Products: SheaMoisture Moisture Retention Shampoo, Trader Joe Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner, Giovanni Direct Leave in (for twists), SheaMoisture Curling Smoothie (for twists or a softer, fuller Wash-N-Go), and of course my holy grails: KCKT, KCCC, and EVOO.
Again, this site is a godsend! Thank you!
Liz j's hair looks gorgeous! I will definitely try to use some of the same prodcts that she uses on her hair on mine.
Omg liz u made it to curly nikki and one yr!!!! Yayzers!!! your hair looks amazing. Just watching it grow has been an amazing show as well…I'm coming in right behind ya with the one yr. mark. You look gorg with long permed hair…short hair…or medium curls…ya just gorg girl!
I love the kinky curly custard and Knot today detangler. I think it is worth every penny, and the time it takes to learn how to use it. I use pure coconut oil over it with no problems. (I wait until it has dried first, I don't know if it makes a difference). But nothing else gives me the hold and pure glossy shine like KCCC.
Cute!
Woah, beautiful…the curls really bring out your face. I love the kinky curly line too…wish my wash and goes came out as spring and curly as yours though.
You have beautiful hair, I am so glad you have embraced your curls! WHOO HOO!!!
okay you have inspired me to try KCCC, I was intimitated by the price and not sure if my hair will like it or not; you know how that goes when you buy a product and it does absolutely nothing for your hair…LOL.
I am going to try it though…live a little I guess.
Congrats on your one year!
thats on heck of a length check..Love it..can't wait until im editing my photos for my 1 yr mark..THanks for sharing..so inspired..:)
Liz- does the Kinky Curly Custard mix well with EVOO…I big chopped a few weeks ago?! But when I just use the KKCC Custard it makes my curls crunchy?!?!
beautiful!
cute curls
Wow ladies, thanks so much for the compliments ๐ I couldn't be happier with my hair!
@Kimmie0810, I was afraid of KCCC too because of the price, but in the year I've been natural, I'm JUST now finishing my second tub. So thats like……~$50/year lol. A little goes a LONNNG way with this stuff. it's worth the price!
@Breanna, Secret: I draw my eyebrows on nowadays ๐ They were always really bushy, but really thin, so when I'd get them waxed you could barely see them. Now I use a pencil and it makes all the difference. Also, I haven't colored my hair in like 6 years lol it changes color according to the season/light/mood. idk, it's weird. idk why it was that light in the first pic, since its from January, but it gets really light in the summer.
Thanks again guys!
Your hair looks cute! Your skin is amazing too. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
congrats on your first year natural! looks luvlee!
@Kimmie0810 i'm also i KCCC shipper and my hair looks a lot like the picture, also because i call Elle my hair twin. KCCC is more forgiving than most give it credit for. you just have to get the rhythm down, but it works great for me with other products, including oils. if you don't wanna splurge on the product though, you can always get a sample first. there are plenty of naturals who are willing to part with some KCCC that they didn't like.
Very Pretty
Wow your hair looks really good, and look at all of that growth on your head, even the eyebrows have grown in much better. I love the black hair color as well, do you plan on putting the color back in that you had on the 1st picture? Either way, your hair has progressed so well and thanks for giving us an update on your hair.
Lisa I was about to say the same thing lol. She looks like my girl Elle in the 2nd pic lol.
Liz J I love your hair. It has grown a lot in a year. I am 1yr natural as of January also and my hair is about the same length as yours now (even with an "aggressive" trim last May). I recently had a Devacut to shape it and I'm just letting it grow now. I SAID I wasn't going to buy any more product but I am sooo tempted by the Kinky Curly! Ugh! I've avoided it because people make it sound so complicated (can't mix with other products) but soo many people love it. And your hair looks great! (we have a similar curl pattern). So I might try it. I'd prefer to get samples or win some but I guess I'll bite the bullet lol
gorgeous!!!
Ur hair so reminds me of denimpixie's hair on youtube except without the burgundy tint. It's gorgeous!
OMG… Liz your curls are so lovely!
such a pretty lady.
Nice! You're hair looks just like mine when I big chopped..I hope my little coils grow out as cute as yours…my name's Liz too lol http://www.curlynikki.com/2010/11/i-big-chopped-liz.html#comments
congrats on going from a twa to 1 year natural! I love the Knot Today too for wash & go's too. I haven't tried the curling custard since it's sold out when I go the Whole Foods or Target.
