There are important days when you want to look fabulous, and then there are special moments that are rites of passage. For those rare events you’ll remember for years to come, finding the right curly style can be downright nerve-wracking. And when your nerves are frayed, mistakes are often made.
Worry no more! Here, stylists reveal the most common mane mistakes that are made at a wedding, prom and big-wig corporate soiree — and how to avoid them.
What do you do with your natural hair in preparation for an important event?
Great advice, I always wait until last minute, I'm hopeless that way and either pull off a creative miracle or frantically find a stylist. I saw they quoted Diane DaCosta in the article. I had a hideous natural experience with her maybe 2 years ago and still can't quite believe that the woman who mercilessly burnt my scalp countless times with a Marcel in 1 visit, among numerous other things, is still in business. Oh well…..
For important events I typically try to co-wash and braidout 2 days before the event. I pineapple my hair the night before. It gives my hair a few days to stretch out and still look defined. I then have the flexibility of wearing it down or pulling it up, and still having good shine and some definition with the benefit of showing more length.
