Super-Photogenic Natural Hair!
Gloria writes;

My last relaxer was two and a half years ago, and I removed the last of my relaxed ends in April 2010. One thing I’ve noticed since going completely natural is that my hair is very photogenic. Seriously. Almost every picture I take now has my hair looking ridiculously full and healthy. Even at those times when I know I am having a bad hair day, my hair somehow looks amazing in photos. Now, I realize that my hair probably looks better in pictures now than it did before simply because my hair is much healthier now than it was when it was relaxed. My hair is just better looking in general. πŸ˜‰ However, I sometimes think that my hair photographs deceptively well. My question for you is:

Are any of you are pleasantly surprised by your super-photogenic natural hair?

I totally agree! No matter how good or terrible I think my hair looks on a given day it always photographs well. It's pretty bizarre!

I think when using a digital camera to take photos my hair looks much better, and even in the bathroom looking in the mirror as well. BUt then I step outside, and it don't look the same shine wise. Then I realize that often times it maybe the product that I used with another that didn't work on the hair to give it a good shine.

But also on a side note we see alot of women going natural with an certain expectation of curl pattern and then don't receive it. I found this interesting video on youtube that hit it on the head about this subject and how we're so driven on curl definition .. etx… YOutuber "Napngo"

My fro looks so much better in photos. I really can't help but think "this looks better, because it looks natural". It's like being photographed when you're happy as opposed to fake smiling.

my hair actually photographs pretty well as long as i dont have a center part.

When my hair is out it looks wayyyyyy better in pics. in pics the curl pattern is amazing! the volume! but in the mirror, it is thin. on the other hand, when tied up or in twists it looks better in the mirror and horrible in pics.

Yes, for me its YES!! Long story short – I flat iron or wear my hair natural (haven't relaxed it over 10yrs) Anyways my now husband and I were doing engagement pictures and I didn't have time to flat iron my hair and my hair was a hot mess + the pics were after work! So I used the bathroom and sued water and got my hair curly and the pics came out amazing I was so afraid I looked crazy!! Since I had no products with me, nope I got a ton of compliments πŸ™‚

If you click on my name there's a pic from of my hair on that day!! lol πŸ™‚

Awww, I wish *tear* all I get is face. πŸ™ Maybe because I use my camera phone.

YES! I was JUST saying this yesterday when I took a few boredom pics on my phone…my curls looked super defined and juicy lol but in person they're pretty frizzy and flat and in need of a wash imo…

idk why that is b/c usually that's not the case…i think it may be because i'm rockin my texture as is and i usually have some sort of stretched style, that's the only thing i can think of…usually the camera wont pick up the definition and it just looks like a mass of hair

my hair is very hit or miss too. sometimes i look in the mirror and think it's the bomb, and then wind up in a picture and it looks a mess.
we also do a lot of videoconferencing at work, and my phone even has video on it, and i covered the camera on my computer b/c my hair looks a mess there too, yet I could go in the bathroom and be super pleased by how much it shines in the natural light, and how big and fluffy it is.

don't know the secret here, but yeah, it is not the business is most pictures, and i do think i have some pretty bomb hair!!

just got a nice hair cut…need to see if having the ends blunted makes a difference. but for now, i stay away from cameras and don't look at other people's pictures of me.

MY HAIR LOOKS HORRIBLE IN PICTURES. I GET SO EXCITED WHEN I THINK I AM HAVING A GOOD HAIR DAY, SNAP A PICTURE AND I LOOK AT IT LIKE :/

  • Anonymous says:

My hair is also the opposite. I think it's big and full and then it doesn't look like it in the photo. I think the camera isn't able to capture depth fully. And I can never quite photograph my curl pattern.

  • Anonymous says:

Just the opposite for me. I always think it looks big and full. The photos bring me back to reality–not as big and full as I thought. LOL

  • CURLYNIKKI says:

    For me, it depends…

Sometimes, my hair looks better on camera than it does in real life, due to the flash, lighting, shadows (which makes the hair appear darker and thicker). But there are other times where I look amazing in the mirror, snap a pic, and it looks absolutely nuts. So for me, it's a toss up.

  • sarah says:

mine too! it's hit or miss with my natural hair and when i look at old pictures, i think my relaxed hair photographed much better, but then again i didn't have unhealthy hair then either.

  • Anonymous says:

No, actually my hair looks horrible in pictures.

  • Purple Cocoa says:

I have not found that natural hair photo look yet

  • Anonymous says:

depends what camera i use and my phone camera is very selective!

  • LaMaraVilla says:

I feel the exact opposite. I think my hair photographs pretty badly unless I was looking in a mirror immediately prior to the pic being taken.

  • KCAS says:

I always get positively surprised by my hair pictures! I have a hair album and sometimes I want to show the frizz and the lack of definition, but the pic gets perfect: hair full of body, shine, definition and frizzless (or minimum frizz). I look at them and look at the mirror trying to convince myself that both are showing the same hair. My doubt is: which hair people see? LOL
