Thanks for the video. I found these knockoff curlformers for cheaper…I wonder will they work the same. Let me know where I can save some money on these!!!
I've also use the extra wide extra long curlformers because my hair stretched is longer than BSL. I used all 46 rollers and I put them in my hair in about an hour. These worked for my hair better than perm rods because my hair dried quicker in these due to the hair being stretched and elongated in the curlformers. definately worth the money when it saves me time.
Your hair is beautiful! Both before and after the set. I bought some curlformers, but I keep running into the same issue you had with not knowing if there's time for them to dry. Also, the hooked on phonics comment was hilarious.
@anonymous 2:51 check this youtuber out. she whips up her own stuff inexpensively and has gorgeous hair featured on CN today under "how to create beachy waves" I think. Her name is Naptural85.
Also I'm a broke highschooler too so my reggie is:
-wash with ordinary shampoo and conditioner (herbal essences hello hydration)p.s the condish detangles like a dream and the cones have yet to kill me or my hair, in fact it's growing like weeds
-use coconut oil as a leave in
-use whipped shea (shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil and other oils) as a moisturizer/ sealant
-use aloe vera gel as a styler
-i hope to soon experiment with flaxseed gel as a styler (Naptural85 also has a tutorial on how to make it)
i hear both sides. I love to see youtube vids showcasing all the latest tools and products out there even if I will never be able to get them. however, I always look for simple inexpensive ways to care for my hair and I share them on my blog (curlyandyoung.blogspot.com). I found out that you do not need all the hyped stuff to get your hair to grow. However, the problem is that there are not alot of persons out there informing people of that fact. I see alot of product promotion and not enough promotion of individual ingredients that everyone on every budget can purchase locally (to save on shipping) and use. But that's just my 0.02.
Also there is nothing wrong with videos on expensive gadgets because someone out there is gonna want to purchase them so why not create a tutorial even if the average jo cannot afford them.
I agree with you LPF it is all about marketing but if someone blindfolded you you probably wouldn't see the difference in taste.
As a really broke grad student I'm starting to find it hard to go natural with the "rules" i.e. not using cones, only using all natural products. especially with all these tutorials that pay 20$ for a4oz jar of product, if you can afford that that's great! But it's not my reality so i had to learn to buy my own products that are cheap and not known that work(kinda).I just wish there was someone making tutorials and bringing more awareness to the fact that we shouldn't have to break our pocket to go natural.
and also check ebay for magic leverag they are listed for 7$ a pack
@Anonymous speaking about the Magic Leverags. Where are you getting yours from because on Amazon they're sold in a pack of 18 for $30. I'm not even sure what sizes they are (it looks like four different ones in a pack). But at that price it seems that the Curlformers are the better deal.
But ignoring that the reason people get Curlformers instead of Magic Leverags when the latter is cheaper can be compared to buying name brand versus generic brand (this is not me saying that Curlformers are name brand). People buy what they know.
I bought Curlformers because I saw a bunch of YouTube tutorials with Curlformers. If I had seen a bunch with Leverags that's what I would have wanted. Just like when I'm at the grocery store I want Frosted Flakes, I want Tony the Tiger. It doesn't matter if there is a Shaw's brand cereal with the same ingredients for less right next to it, I'm paying for what I know, and that darn Tiger and song from TV.
Can any other naturals talk about their experience with the Extra Wide Curlformers? I'm thinking of buying them as an alternative way to straighten my hair.
I'm also not sure how many I need so I'm ordering two salon kits off the website, my hair is 3b, 3c, 4a (majority 3c).
Video quality was just fine to me. And your hair is gorgeous!
Negative nancies really need to keep it moving. Geez! It's not necessary to make a comment, especially when it is not constructive.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! I LOVE IT! Her hair looks soo freaking soft afterwards! And my I say that her air dry hair is pretty and so its her hair color! I have been wanting to invest into some curlformers and I definitely like this outcome the best….so big it is!
I didn't take it as an attack. You epressed how you didn't get why anyone would by them. I was just explaining. 🙂 I also meant to mention that for me, it works out the same. I use 40 plus long and wides. Or 40 plus extra long and regular width. Which is not offered in the Magic L.
Oh and also I don't think you're video quality is bad and at least unlike some other youtubers you have a nice background not some dirty laundry and food all over the background.
Okay really rude and tactless? What part? me saying you should do with your money as you want? Me saying really expensicve things are not necessarynand it's nice to find cheaper options? Condesceding how? Me disagreeing with becuase she didn't feel that there was a real price difference. As I said I wasn't saying anything to her personallyI was just speaking in general. Let's all calm down, her hair looks gorgeous and it is really not that serious.
Trenell, your hair came out beautifully!! I'm such a sucker for rollersets. I know this is off topic, and I hope you don't mind me asking but, I believe you mentioned working for Disney. What work do you do for them?
To the Anonymous poster going on about the Magic rollers, you're coming off as rude and tactless. It's one thing to mention that a cheaper version of a product exists; it's another to be condescending about how someone else chooses to spend the money that they've earned. It's totally unnecessary.
Everyone can do with their money as they want but often you see all thse video on youtube of naturals who buy these or get these really expensive things which really aren't a necessity ansd it would be nice to get people who explore cheaper options and this isn't an attack on the person making this video.
I bought 32 magic leverag roller for 13$ including 2 hooks, that's 18 long 18 short while the curlformer pack 40 Long , 6 Short and a Curlformer Hook for 70$ and most people aren't going to put 46 rollers on their head at one time. I did the math 13$ for 32rollers or 21$ for 54 rollers vs 70$ for me is more that just a few dollars
Never heard of Magic Leverag, so I looked it up. Magic Laverage seem to come in only one width. Yes, the kit is cheaper, but there are just 18 rollers, only 9 of which I can use, and you can't buy individual size packs. (I don't think) So the amount of kits of Magic Leverags I would have to buy would come out to about the same as the Curlformers, give or take a few dollars.
I bought mine. Hair "stuff" is a want, not a need. A treat for myself. So I don't mind spending the money. 🙂
Curlformers are SO EXPENSIVE and I really don't understant why people buy them when you can get Magic Leverag WHICH ARE EXACTLY THE SAME for like 10$ when curlformers are 67$ I don't get it, and I don't get how youtubers either A. don't know or B. are getting from the company free or charge. That's the only explanation I have found
Wow this came out really great, and that's alot of hair that she had. It had a very lioness look before and so thick and healthy. Those curlformers with the lottobody hooked her hair up wonderfully. Thanks for sharing with us.

I think the latest video from youtuber "Naptural85" would look nice on Curlynikki to try since they have about the same hair texture. Title of video "Effortless Beach Waves"
Hey Trenell,I love the way your hair turned out. If you don't mind my asking, how long did the curls last from using that product?
Thanks for the video. I found these knockoff curlformers for cheaper…I wonder will they work the same. Let me know where I can save some money on these!!!

That's just my two cents. Feel free to disagree.
@ Rissa Katharine, I THINK I used 40 or so..
@Stacy: Thanks. Got the color from my crazy grandpa. 🙂
I'm not good at hair typing. I consider myself 4a and they work on me, but there are women with tigher curls that use them.
Do you think someone with a 4a or 4b hair type could use the Curl Formers?
I love the look that curl formers gives.. Trenell, your hair is gorgeous (i love the color.. matches your personality!)
ps: I have a big head,(lol) my hair is thick and about BSL.
Can any other naturals talk about their experience with the Extra Wide Curlformers? I'm thinking of buying them as an alternative way to straighten my hair.

Pretty results! I love curlformers I'm convinced to give this a go.
Video quality was just fine to me. And your hair is gorgeous!

oops "Buy" not "by" in my last post. And "expressed" Lord, I'm the queen on typos.
I'm an actor at Disney. I do street improv at the Studios.

PHENOMENAL results! like, seriously i haven't seen it look so good…ever! I think its because she uses smaller chunks of hair! looks great!

Thanks, ladies!
By the by. It's not the camera (Don't talk about my camera. My mama bought me my camera. ha!) It's how youtube transcode
So for those of you who were able to get the gist of my video, again, a big thanks. 🙂

It came out really nice. I'm GLAD she shared.
I like it.
I hate it when youtubers have crappy cameras. Why bother to make videos if the quality sucks?
