CN: When you first chopped, what were your thoughts and feelings? How do you feel now?
N: When I first BC’d, I was extremely excited. I felt overwhelmingly renewed and regenerated. It was such an empowerment for me because I felt like I had let go. Today that same feeling still exists. I am so in love with my hair and love who I am. I just want to be the best me that I can be.
CN: How did you cope with the responses from your family and friends?
N: I kind of prepared those who were closest to me and some co-workers. Many of them were not too thrilled. I am known for changing things up and going against the grain. Many just thought, “Here she goes again!” There were a few naysayers who asked me why I would do something like that. I also received comments like, “Ugh, yo hair gonna be nappy.” As always, I didn’t concern myself with negativity and instead, did what I felt was best for me. Needless to say, after my big chop, many of those individuals who gave me negative comments have converted to natural.
CN: What are your plans for your hair?
N: I plan to grow it out. My drive and focus is healthy hair! I want some healthy, crazy, and big hair! It looks so chic.
CN: Do you find it necessary to ‘doll up’ your look to feel more feminine?
N: I don’t really “doll up.” I like my TWA with just basic stud earrings or something simple. I will throw a headband, clip, comb, or scarf on every now and then, but it’s not necessary. I like it simple.
CN: How do you keep it moisturized?
N: I deep condition once a week normally on Sunday and co-wash midweek which falls on Wednesday, depending on the style I have. I always use a leave-in and seal with castor oil. I love castor oil. It’s my friend! I also henna once a month.
CN: What products and techniques do you use to style? How often do you style?
N: Now, my signature styling product is Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel, and I use a shingling technique to distribute the product throughout my hair. I have a new found love for Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I love the way it works with my twist-outs. I use Herbal Essences Hello Hydration for co-washing and the old faithful Giovanni line of products for shampoos, conditioners, and a leave-ins. As stated above, I love castor oil. I tend to be a closet product junkie. So this list could go on forever, but I am sure you get the picture. I usually style twice a week.
CN: How do you achieve definition?
N: Moisturizing my hair is the key as well as making sure I seal in that moisture and define my curls with Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel.
CN: How do you preserve your curls at night?
N: I use a satin doo rag. Yes, I use a doo rag to try to create some waves. I guess when my hair grows out more, I will use a bonnet.

Neomi, your hair looks great!
I know Neomi said she was growing her hair out, and more power to her for doing whatever she wants with her hair but *WOW* she looks cute with the teeniest TWA.
Between her and Rachel Stewart, I am getting that 5 year itch again… time to chop it all off.
What a beautiful young lady!
