My gramomma always said "Hurah daw ee raw funjee" or that's what it sounded like to my ears. It was actually "hurry dog eat raw fungee" meaning if you rush the process you will not like the results.
"When people give you an excuse, remember: people do what they 'want' to do"
Meaning: People will make time for what/who they want to make time for, spend their money on what they want to spend their money on, people will try for what they want to try for, become emotionally invested in who/what they want to become emotionally invested in, etc…..
Here are my top five:
When I was acting up: "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out"
When I was feeling low: "Who's the prettiest girl you know?" The answer "ME"
When I was discouraged: "Strive to be the very best you can be"
When I questioned her authority:"My job is to raise you up in the way you should go"
Always: "I'm lifting you up in prayer"
My mommy always says "Let it go." and "Don't let anyone else determine your attitude for you." "God is in control."
She also quotes my great-grandmother with "The faster you live your life, the faster it comes to an end." "Every tub has to sit on its own bottom." "If it hasn't happened to you yet, keep on living."
"Never wear panties with holes or stains in them b/c you never know when you may get in an accident and they are on display for the whole world to see"
Mommy always says:
-My job is to protect you from all dangers both foreign and domestic, including yourself.
-Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do.
-I love you most.
<3 Happy Mother's Day
My mother would always say…"It is better than to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."
This would refer to various items/scenarios…having an umbrella for possible rain, facial tissue for a runny nose, etc…
I love my Mother soooo much and am richly blessed to be her daughter.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts, Sisters and others who serve as mothers! 🙂
Lol@anon 10:56….Jamaican? My mom always says: Time is longer than rope, so be patient. She also says "what doesnt kill, fattens"…smh…lol!Love her though.
Let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no.' She also used to always say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?"—–>translation: Don't have sex before you're married… if he can have what he wants now, why will he marry you later?
My mom always said " people come from the most loving place they know" meaning don't lets peoples negativity get to you … put your head up and keep moving
My momma used to say (and still says…as a matter of fact last week) "they'll need me before I need them". "You're a day late and a dollar short". "What goes around, comes around".
A little on the TMI side (but Mom had 2 busty daughters) If you don't wear some "titty clothes" now, they will hang to your knees later…So happy I took her advice…LMBO! Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommies!!!
Mama used to say……"Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" and "No matter how tall you get, I'll still knock you to your knees." Mama didn't play that and still doesn't.
I never truly understand this quote/life motto my mom always said to me until I became an adult – but now… I live by it! Momma always said "To whom much is given… much is expected"!!!
Some things my mother always said…..
"Leave something to the imagination". Meaning, don't show off all your body in public.
She also would say….."Say what you mean and do what you say"
And my beloved grandmother would say…."You come at a match?" Meaning, you came and you didn't stay long and now you're leaving. Like striking a match. It's a southern thang…..lol
My mom always said when I was old enough to date, "Books come before boys". I use that when I talk to young ladies, now, but I tell them, "If you don't believe me, look it up in the dictionary"!
I am fortunate to have 5 mothers so I always get lots of advise. Here are a few:
– Always take care of yourself.
– Depend on no one, what someone else can do for you… you can do for yourself.
– In this society you have 3 odds against you so you must work 3 times harder than the average joe.
– Always do what you LOVE to do and success will follow.
Just to name a few. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOTHERS.

I am rolling on the floor laughing. I'm loving your momma cause she sounds a lot like my mom who I just recently lost on April 22.
