This moisturizing treatment revitalizes hair, leaving it soft and full, strengthening strands and reducing split ends. In a bowl combine:
-1 small jar of full-fat mayonnaise
-1/2 of a ripe or over-ripe avocado
Mash avocado with the back of a wooden spoon until soft and creamy. Mix mayonnaise into avocado until well-blended, and one color throughout. Work with fingers through hair, paying special attention to the ends. Cover head with warm, damp towel for deep conditioning, or put on shower cap. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cold water to help close your hair cuticles, and cut down on frizz.
Olive oil helps the avacado rinse out, I use a handmixer and whip it all for about 10 minutes, that way all of the little pieces blend in well, and it is very creamy. I use raw honey, olive oil and an avacado…my hair is so soft, yet very strong afterwards! something about that avacado!
Are you supposed to use the whole mixture in your hair, or do you apply it as you would any other conditioner?
when I once tried an avocado deep treatment in my hair the smell was so bad it make me throw up. After that I swore not to use it. Maybe if i get one that is not fully ripe like I did the last time it wont test my stomach.
When I make avocado mixtures I mix it in the blender and I've never had a problem rinsing it out.
you should use this mix immediately since the avocado will already be ripe or over ripe. the smell will go away after washing it with your shampoo or co-washing though you can add a few drops of essential oil if you'd like though it's not necessary. avocado, when mashed well and when you use a ripe or overripe fruit, should rinse clean.
How long can I store this mixture in the refrigerator?
Is this done before shampooing? I am asking because while my hair LOVES avocado, in the past it has been nearly impossible to rinse out when I use it as a deep conditioner post-washing.
For those who use avocado to treat their curly hair: How do you make sure your hair is rinsed clean?
your hair will be soft but not smell so pleasant. add something to the mix to reduce the smell of the mayo.
This is horrible but all I can think is that if I had an avocado I would have to eat it and find something else to put in my hair. LOL. Thanks for the quickie though. 🙂
Maybe I'll try this recipe for this week's deep treatment session! I like simplicity, and my hair LOVES mayonaise.
